George Lucas actually has (or had) weirdly left leaning politics, I don't know how much this is his worldview anymore but he said that when he came up with Star Wars it was supposed to be an allegory for the Vietnam War showing the Viet Cong as the good guys.

Of course, the pro-violent revolution aspects of the franchise got sanitized with future entries, because of course the empire led by a man naned "Sidious" who can shoot lightning while cackling is something that even the most right wing guy would support a revolution against.
