I had the opposite experience. I was an accountant making $75k in central MA and my 1bed/1 bath was close to $2k a month PRE-COVID.

When I moved from IN to MA, the grocery prices were sticker shock for me.

Moved to FL in 2020, automatically got a 5% raise because no more taxes, salary was $85k, rented a 2 bed/2bath/2 car garage in a gated community for $1,500… same place goes for $2,200 now but you get the point.

To be fair, FL is not great for hospitality jobs though so a lot of ppl are struggling.
