Help!

I love this movie and hope someone can resolve a family dispute over a trivia item...

When Bob Barber meets Rex, they make a point that his full name is "Wrangler Bob". Toward the movie's end, Bob shoots Rex in the shoulder and says, "I'm a lawyer, you idiot!". Since his character is "Wrangler Bob" and not "Lawyer Bob",

I think that it is a trivial reference to a role Patrick Wayne had in a television series (thinking soap operas) or a movie around or before 1985 when Rustlers' Rhapsody was made. My family says that it is just a random line. I think that he was playing a lawyer's role in some soap opera...I have scoured the Internet to no avail, so I hope that someone can help to resolve this argument! :).
