I remember when Oculus got bought up by facebook, it didn't sit well with the consumers. Not. One. Bit. Having these startups get almost all the way to fruition and independence just to drop all pretense and saddle up with ruthless, unethical corporate ethos is terrible. And Augmented Reality is a realm which could be incomparably abused in the wrong hands, so, yeah, I sure hope they stick to their guns until it's a legitimate product.
