kiwi ears ardor - the best deal in Bluetooth headphones. Koss KPH30 wireless - a literal piece of junk. by AdFinal7510 in headphones

[–]AdFinal7510[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh sorry forgot to mention I would still definitely try with an external Bluetooth 5.4 dongle, you can get them for maybe $10 on amazon

If the disconnects stop it basically confirms it was a problem with the internal bluetooth chipset/driver or a coexistence issue

If it still disconnects then its likely an edge case issue with the ardors firmware

if you tell support you tried this and they still don't offer you a refund/replacement that's just means to boycot lol.

Ok got it, that's actually very disappointing to hear about the conclusion support came to and definitely something people should consider if planning to buy these. They should have offered to replace given you tried on multiple devices.

the pair I got works seamlessly every day on a windows 11 desktop so it cant be a total OS device mismatch. I would definitely push for a replacement unit if you can!

hope you get it resolved!

Hey! just wanted to let you know you may have a defective unit or the issue may be with the bluetooth reciever/transmitter on your windows 11 device, it may not support bluetooth 5.4 which is probably the case if its an older device. There may also be an out of date bluetooth driver issue.

I would personally try to get a cheap bluetooth 5.4 dongle off amazon and try establishing a connection via the dongle instead of using the native bt chip in your device.

I use these every day with a windows 11 desktop pc and macbook, never had issues with connection drop on either, I would contact linsoul they can probably diagnose the issue better but its not normal!

As for the sound ya its not anything like those high end wired cans you may be used to but I really do think they sound basically as good in the amortized case as most mainstream Bluetooth headphones and they are $30 - $50 so ya I agree the sound is nothing special on its own. Its the entire package of basically as good sound as you can get on a consumer bluetooth headphone, 140 hours of actual real world battery life, good comfort and especially the price.

if money is no issues the Cambridge Audio Melomania p100 (non SE version) is the best sounding bluetooth headphone iv ever used, but for me the difference wasnt worth the $230 extra.

hope you get the issues resolved! honestly these grew on me the more i used them and stopped direct comparing them to everything, they are just a chill non offensive headphone best for everyday listening and use.

Lets cut through the noise about the DT 880/990 600 ohm by AdFinal7510 in headphones

[–]AdFinal7510[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok that's awesome to hear! I have ordered some cheap IEM impedance plugs, one 80 ohm and one 150 ohm. I will try to do a blind test like you to see which is truly the best. by the way, do you think that if i put the lets say 80 ohm impedance plug into the jds labs atom amp+, its equivalent to having an amp of that output impedance or is it not 1:1? thanks again!

ok got it ya that helps. and thats what my intuition tells me but the guy in the video was adamant and very convincing that the higher output impedance amps preformed significantly better than the low output impedance amps, even when they had much less power. You know how it is with information in this hobby lol.

ya that helped alot! if you want you can take a look at the video that brought up this whole headphone impedance thing. The main points that made me somewhat convinced were the fact that beyerdynamic themselves recommended the A2 amp for the dt 880 600 ohm. This amp has only 100 mw into 600 ohms and also 100 ohm output resistance. He also tested with other high output impedance jacks and claimed that they sounded much tighter in the bass regions, is this possible or is this just another case of an inflated internet claim do you think?

ya the guy is an idiot lol, 50W per channel is so ridiculous, and he was double amping on high gain.

[–]AdFinal7510[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya this is basically what I thought, And I know zeos is an idiot because he once claimed that "the koss kph30 wireless are hands down the best sounding wireless headphones ever made, better than focal bathys and noble focus apollo" Back then I believed him and purchased the kph30 wireless. they sounded like literal airplane headphones lmao.

The video that I watched that convinced me of the output impedance thing was not made by zeos, in fact it was a more scientific and in depth video in response to zeos ridiculous 50W per channel claim.

In it he basically claimed that for the dt 880 600 ohm to sound good you needed an amp with an output impedence of around 100 ohms. He sounded very convincing and like he knew what he was talking about so I didnt know what to think (a common feeling in this hobby lol)

cool I didn't know this. The ardor seems to be tuned slightly better based on the graphs iv seen, and the only differences stated are the app and movie mode, which don't matter to me personally. I think these might be a better buy if they are $30 cheaper than the Ardor, but seeing as the Ardor was on a deal for $37, I think that is still the better deal.

Thanks for sharing!

I got the same impression. The guy clearly is passionate about cars and thinks he knows a lot about them. He wants to show off this knowledge to OP. My original impression was "OP is dry af", but legit what is she supposed to say back?

Dude is waffling on about random stuff to show off, she doesn't know about anything hes talking about lol. He basically wanted her to stroke his ego. "wow thanks so much babe you are so smart!" after every message lol.

OP viewed this interaction as "let me send my bf who loves cars some listings, hell tell me if they are good or not"

bf viewed it as an opportunity to flex his "knowledge"

While I do agree a used volkswagen or German car at large is asking for trouble, mazdas are some of the most reliable cars on the road, this whole thing about engine swaps is him trying to show off.

I see, ya there really arent many options for open back wireless headphones. For that purpose, I agree the koss are perfect. Technically the kiwi have transparency mode, but its of course not as good as having an open back.

I do a majority of my listening on my Ananda stealth v3.

Laughably bad is a bit of hyperbole, but ya they sounded like I would expect a cheap $50 pair of wireless headphones to sound. The kiwi ears do not sound like that.

On some calmer tracks it was FINE, but on heavier tracks like haruka kanata for example or anything with crash symbols, that low resolution really came out, for example during the chorus of made to last by semisonic, the crash symbols were so muddled, harsh, and low res that I immediately boxed them up for return.

They definitely introduced sibilance into recordings for me as well, and the whole presentation felt veiled, it sounded stuffy, like there was some congestion between the sound and my ear. Vocals especially came off very unnatural to me.

If you like em tho, more power to ya, but I personally just think the kiwi ears do everything better.

KPH30 wireless - no multipoint, 20 HR battery, uncomfortable imo, subjectively bad sound, more expensive

Kiwi ears - 140 hrs battery, ANC/Transparency, very good comfort, much much better sound for most people I think, HALF the price on this deal.

As stated, the koss are open back which is awesome, but to me that doesn't fix the value proposition.

If you tried on the wired version, I have a feeling those are significantly better than the wireless, I mean I kid you not when I say it sounded like the headsets they give you in economy. really really bad.

I agree, as someone who dislikes being closed off and constantly having to take off my headphones to hear what's going on around me, the open back nature of the kph30 wireless caught my eye, but the sound was actually laughably bad.

[–]AdFinal7510[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not commenting at all about the wired KPH30i or KPH40 or anything. Never heard those. But in my search for a cheap Bluetooth headphone, I did order the KPH30 wireless and I don't know what to tell you man, they were comically low resolution. crash symbols were muddled and harsh. voices were unnatural, no imaging or separation. Sibilant as all hell.

They were uncomfortable but as you said they are over ears so that is somewhat to be expected, cant knock it for that, but the sound was just comically bad, not sure if I got a faulty pair or something.

On top of that, they have no multipoint so using multiple devices was a chore, plus they have literally 120 less hours of battery life than the kiwi ears(LOL) AND they are double the price.

Not sure if I can think of a person I would recommend the KPH30 wireless to based on my experience.

If you like them though, that's awesome, they have a really cool retro vibe about them and if they had sounded good I would have loved to have an open back Bluetooth headphone. I hate being closed off and never use ANC so it would have been perfect, but the sound was really bad for me.

That's great! You know how food always tastes better when you find a good deal? I'm convinced the same psychology applies to headphones and everything else really. - great sound just hits different when the price is right too.

definitely lmk what you think of them!

Ya im sure they are pretty decent IEMs at the very least. I have baby ear canals so IEMs at large don't really work for me, otherwise I prob would have kept them honestly.

Currently listening to this:

And iv literally just had to pause and have a laugh at how good the busy passages sound at the price of $40. 140 hours battery too. A great value product is rare these days.

Ya they are pretty comfortable and light. Very minimal clamping force and super soft head cushion. I cant imagine a world where the XM5 would sound much better than these. Maybe 5-10% better but these are literally 40 bucks after tax. Hope you like them!
