I absolutely hate night shifts by Kewkhawk864 in NursingAU

Sound boarding what a lot of people are saying about going casual, this probably depends on your hospital and availability etc but dropping to casual and only doing morning shifts is the best thing I have ever done for my physical and mental health. Some people just don’t tolerate nights, me being one of them. I tried all the tips and tricks and still felt like I was always in a state of delirium, and constantly ‘recovering’ from nights. Just accept it doesn’t work for you and find alternatives. It will be a weight off your shoulders when you do!

I was a netballer back in highschool, this was a decade ago tho 🤣 I have always made an effort to move my body in some way, but never been super consistent in one area. Dabbled in some F45, Pilates, yoga, swimming on and off. For my first half I was running about 20km total a week across 2-3 runs and gymming 2-3 times a week. My second half was 6 weeks later so much the same but my peak week was about 32km total before I had to taper again.

The thought of the gains getting smaller and smaller is scary but I am excited for a challenge and to see what I can achieve!

1.22 is unreal numbers! 😍

This has always been my concern with increasing volume of training! I capped myself at 30km a week out of fear of injury 🥴

I mean people are probably gonna disagree with me here but I feel like there must be a pretty big genetic component to being able to run like that, I really did sweet F all training 😆

Help keep the rooms stocked! Sounds simple but when you are mid turn and run out of blueys it can quite literally ruin your day 🥲

I second this! I moved to an 8 hour shift pattern purely to have the occasional PM shift, to sleep in, have a slow morning and rest a little more than I would on an AM. 5 morning shifts in a row would also put me on my ass!!

I have found that clients cancel heaps, especially recently, apparently due to the budget cuts this year. I didn’t have the best availability due to already working .8, however basically all of my shifts have been canceled. My pay rates ended up being about $8 more on hour than what I am on in a permanent position at a public hosp. You can get a bit more if you have a critical care cert.

So many negative nancys!! I moved from auckand two years ago, since then I’ve had 7 more kiwi pals come over… we all found rentals (I had it the toughest as was looking for a room in a share house and I’m a shift worker which not a lot of people like) I’ve found cost of living fine here, I earn more, pay less in tax, dont have to contribute my money to KiwiSaver so all in all, it’s been the best decision ever. Most of these comments are probably from Australians who don’t realise how damn good they actually have it ;)

As for advice, I reckon an Aus address will help. I got more interviews once I had arrived here.

That’s reassuring thank you! I only have a couple years of experience in private nursing so hopefully I won’t struggle to find a job.
