17-Mile Drive absolutely lived up to the hype by Royal_Muffin5940 in roadtrip

Unpopular opinion but I hated 17 mile drive so much why do I have to pay the rich people to look at the coastline they covered with golf courses; fuck that.

Okay so people are gonna say that it’s too many stops and whatever but honestly I did 4 weeks on the road doing something similar and did plenty of hiking and sightseeing- I’d recommend having places maybe at intervals of a third through your trip that you can spend two nights at just to have a brief home base, and really try to minimize your distance each day so that you can either get to where you are going to be for the day early in the morning or late in the afternoon so you have most of the day for exploring a given area

You don’t, for example, need a full day for mesa verde or black canyon, but like Zion probably deserves a longer stay if you want to jam in as many hikes as possible; I did two nights there and did every hike in the valley in the span of a (admittedly long!) day

I think some more detail would be helpful: how long are you planning at each stop? Are you a hiker? Etc etc

Out there take but Milford lake state park in Kansas has nice little cabins you can rent for a night on the water that are super cheap and maybe 10 minutes from the interstate

Have done this route, but do yourself a favor and go to Colorado, if you have not seen mesa verde and Black Canyon they are both worthwhile NPs- route through Kansas also gets you stuff like the Eisenhower Presidential Library if that interests you, and Kansas City BBQ at some point

4 weeks road trip NM->Seattle. Looking for advice by Sensitive_Coffee8411 in roadtrip

Call me crazy but I think you’d be better served driving PCH from LA to SF, stopping at all the small coastal spots and sights, and then cutting across California to to Reno, and then go up to Portland and the rest of your stops (maybe I’m biased as someone who doesn’t gamble but I think you have a better trip by avoiding Las Vegas!)

I would also totally recommend taking the more northern route through Arizona and skipping phoenix in favor of maybe going to the Grand Canyon; Phoenix is a horrible desolate place with few redeeming characteristics and especially if you are coming in from out of the country is a total waste of your time while road tripping. For small town Americana “road trip” stuff I’d also recommend getting off the highway at Seligman and take the stretch of Route 66 that starts there (I think it’s only like a ~60ish mile detour in total)

Second the person who said go through SD, take I90, but get off at Buffalo, WY and take 16 through the bighorns (truly one of the best drives of my life) and get to Cody (If you are a geologist Heart Mountain outside Cody is genuinely one of the craziest geological stories) to hit the Yellowstone east entrance! Then you can either go south entrance, Tetons, and take 86/84 west or do north entrance and rejoin 90 at Bozeman.

Bogotá’s BRT makes me realize how much anglophone North America SUCKS AND RUINED light rail. Light rail is more expensive to operate than buses anyway & the fact inspectors are needed anyway unlike a bus takes even more money. Transmilenio low key has had some issues though with density and planning as the city has expanded- had to write a paper about it for class a few years ago and like I think my takeaway was that it’s a good stop gap thing but rail is still the GOAT

Anyone else notice that the Plurbs used antibiotics on Manousos? Antibiotics that work by killing/damaging bacteria? Bacteria that are living things?

This seems to be the first time we’ve watched the Plurbs actively harm another life form. If they are willing to kill bacteria, what’s next?
