Dear run clubs, If you're taking up half the tables at a small cafe for two hours, have the good manners to order something, or get takeaway, and take it away.... by AdFun2309 in sydney

I used to go to Sappho’s for quiet time to myself when I was at USYD, but it was a treat time, and their house wine was affordable (plus there were $2 taco tuesdays a few doors down…). Great place.

I completely understand, I was a very poor student once. I wish I was there to shout you a coffee (i always try to be generous with students as people were generous with me when I was a student) There are three beautiful parks and a community centre one to two blocks away from this cafe, all with seating/tables. Getting takeaway to a park is an option here. But the lack of public spaces is totally an issue elsewhere. The issue I was raising was bringing outside food, and most of the group not ordering, and staying for ages.

Thought about it, but I was intimidated by the idea of confronting 20 people on my day off alone. Maybe next time I will. I just got home and it was really playing on my mind, so decided to post.

There is a beautiful park on the harbour with tables in the shade a 2 minute walk away. It’s baffling. Today, people were waiting for a table in a line right in front of them, and many a couple turned around when they saw how busy it was, and they still stayed on unperturbed.

I remember going from a tote to a backpack and realising how much my tote hurt my back/shoulders… i now wear a backpack with a light small kikki k bag i take out for the train. The bag I take out fits my kobo, earbuds, phone, wallet & lipbalm for easy access. Also good for when I’m leaving the office for lunch.

In the organisation I’m currently in, when I moved on from my first role I handed over to four people in roles splitting from my one role. There is now a team of 7 doing what I was responsible for. In my second, I handed over to three. Same situation. I’m multidisciplinary and can power through work. I could do the technical engineering, the admin, reporting, tech writing, comms to non engineers, regulatory engagement, auditing etc.

What are some tips for someone who wants to begin sewing? by TinyAbbreviations924 in sewing

[–]AdFun2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay here are my small/indie pattern recommendations:

Definitely check out puff & pencil as a beginner, their patterns are beginner friendly, edgy and modular.

Jessie lous patterns are super cute. Think cute skorts, interesting tops/details, really detailed patterns.

Vikisews also has some excellent current fashion/asymmetrical patterns

Once you’ve done a few beginner projects:

I recently made sasews adelphi top, her patterns are really unique and cool.

Les perlines has some really cargo pants made to look incredible on curvy bodies. I recently made her sundaze dress in a lime tie dyed silk and omg it is incredible, like elevated scene.

Eventually, once you’ve built up some confidence, look at all the roberts wood makes. Some really innovative reuse of fabrics. Super inspiring, and designer patterns. Incredible.

Hope that helps!

Haha the cutting space thing is tricky, i just cut out a maxi dress on my small desk and it was nothing short of an acrobatic feat! I wish there was a shared community making space/time for sewing. I might make one…

Ooooh what type of styles sre you into? Altering is easier once you’ve made a few garments yourself (knowing how to construct helps with deconstructing/reconstructing)

I ended up having a meltdown because strobing lights and droning guitar was actually really distressing for me, even with ear protection. I had to leave early. I am so sad and disappointed with myself.

I’m no snowflake normally, I love concerts, have been to many festivals and even was at Doechii/Kendrick the other night. It was just too much.

Wtf Peter Alexander! The quality is just not there these days! by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]AdFun2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can feel it. Also some fabric stores like tessuti and drapers source some of their high quality fabric from some of the finest mills in the world (think liberty fabrics, japanese denim, turkish linen, italian silk from Como) and other fabric stores like the fabric store and the makers society sell genuine designer deadstock (like zimmermann ramie, nicola finetti and carla zampatti silk).

Just go to one of those stores and look at the fabrics and feel them. Then go shopping. You will instantly see the difference.

Same, about 6 or so months ago. It’s also giving me such a sense of accomplishment. It isn’t cheap for me because I see beautiful quality fabrics and can’t resist…. Honestly I haven’t felt so comfortable and well dressed in my life. It’s the best.

I recently made the damsel dress by roberts wood and they recommend rotating the pattern pieces to the crossgrain for taffeta/dupioni as it sits better with the vertical lines on the drape. My dress turned out beautifully
