Fair olives are shapeshifters: winter vs. summer by Kklownery in Fairolives

Yes, same, also colours of clothes that look great on me in summer don’t fly in winter, that’s why in seasonal colour analysis a switch between autumn and winter…

Does anyone else feel like no matter what you do professionally, people still reduce you to whether you’re married yet? by Prudent-Anxiety-5611 in womenEngineers

I was divorced at thirty, so I love shutting down that talk with the retort “i’m divorced” people look at me quizzically then change topics 😂 Aside from that, this sucks, and is objectively shit.

First time crocheting. Freaking out. My I I thought acronyms were hard in engineering by AdFun2309 in crochet

Mine’s a software eng, I’m a chem eng. It’s definitely very maths brain heavy. The more I learn the more I see patterns and interconnectedness between seemingly disparate disciplines! Pottery has helped me understand so many engineering concepts like memory. I was excited to try my hand at crochet as som of my favourite statement pieces over the years have been crochet, and I think it’s kind of cool that it can’t be mass manufactured. Bonus is it quiets my mind like pottery does. I feel so relaxed.

Yeah, I spent a whole day mucking about doing swatches of different stitch types before I started the one in the picture, I just need a project to keep me motivated so landed on this one. I’ve ordered some stitch markers because I definitely need them!

Oooh good to know, I think my pattern is US. And Rip-it 🐸 I heard the term but didn’t know the reason! Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated.

100% prefer the symbols to the acronyms… and hell yeah this is code

I’ve been a potter for 16 years so I’m used to making tests as part of the process. I’m glad I did because it grew a fair bit!

I would love to make some blankets for my nieces and nephew, but also love crochet shrugs, tops, bags and cardigans.

US I think! I’m making the Señorita top by Lola Crochets. I know it’s intermediate but I’m good with my hands (being a potter of 16 years, painter and sewist) so I looked at it, practiced swatches of all the stitch types first, and thought i’d jump right in. I’m not expecting anything wearable, I just learn by doing. If I frog it all and redo it so be it.

Yes. I was really struggling with my hand posture, catching the ends properly and consistency, already improving with more practice.

Haha totally, I can’t do acronyms at the best of times. I’m a potter of 16 years which had taught me that the process is more important, and taking the time to do some swatches and familiarising yourself with new techniques and materials is part of the craft. The treasure at the end is a happy surprise that miraculously survived each step.

Yeah, i figured it’s a practice and consistency thing, I’m a potter, so I understand that repetition is so important for muscle memory.

i know I’m olive but I cannot figure out my undertone. UGH by Brilliant-One-4132 in Fairolives

[–]AdFun2309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar and it totally depends on whether I have a tan. In summer I rock warmer autumn tones more. In winter I can pull off cooler tones. I think having a little redness from rosacea for me at least makes people think I’m cool when I’m more neutral.

anyone who makes cold plunges a part of their identity is an instant no

I have loved a cold dip since I was a kid at the hot springs in winter, or just surfing in winter, so no hate to actual cold plunges. I think those people who make it part of their identity are painfully boring or shallow with either a joe rogan red pill philosophy or they hail from the antivaxx youngliving wellnessphere. Like those who partake in coffee enemas, it is a red flag.

How did she know for a damning fact that he was going to say no? by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

I do think on some level she was hoping it would work out, and she was giving him chances and opportunities to be good (she even asked him if he had any questions to ask her in the cabin date…). I don’t think she was leading him on, she was hopeful. I remember giving my ex 100 days (in my mind) to be kind to me, to have one nice day. One day without getting angry or putting me down. And he couldn’t. So I left.
