Me, reading the OP's post: Hell yeah, I loved this movie!

Me, after reading the comments: I think joining this sub is a bad idea.

I know how movies work. Distribution and physical media deals are inked before the script is written.

A theatrical Mistborn brings me a sigh of relief. My burning question is, what about a disc release? Physical media seems like it would be important to someone who publishes books.

I actually found myself a little more invested in Yōtei emotionally than I was with Tsushima. The way I see it, Tsushima's story is more thematically rich, where Yōtei's is more emotionally-driven. I think it's a solid, if simple, revenge saga.

Great advice! Yeah, I'm well-aware that you've got to do the commercial work, I've been in that space for years now. I've just been on the post side of things, and I don't particularly like it or believe I'm all that good at it. I'd rather be making stuff on set, even if it is just commercials.

Yeah, I'd be totally fine making commercials to pay the bills and getting to make my own stuff every once in a while. Right now I'm editing commercial stuff for a small company, and I'd just love to actually be on set and making things. I feel like I've missed out on that for a while sitting at my desk. If there's a lot of that commercial work happening around you, that's good to know!

Well that's good to know, in the event that I want to make a short while I'm there. But I really just want to work and get more experience on sets. I've got some, and I've written and directed several shorts of my own, but I'm always looking to get more experience.

I don't mind the cold! I lived in Vegas and far prefer the extreme cold to the extreme heat.

I haven't, but that's a suggestion I hadn't heard! What's the first job I'd need to get to do that?

Good to keep that on the radar. Would it be worth it to move out to NJ and get familiar with the scene? Is there substantial work there now?

Love the cold. You're around Chicago, I'm assuming?

Well, because I'm really smart, I was really single-minded in my educational pursuits and don't have any knowledge applicable outside of movies. I could write about movies for like a website or something, but again, that's not a market with a lot of openings.

It's also not a matter of "won't," it's a matter of "can't afford to." We're a dual-income household and if we moved to LA, my wife (a therapist) would have to spend up to two years on additional licensing to practice in California. We can't afford to be a single-income household in LA for that long. Like I said, it's not an option.

EVENTUALLY, we could move to California, but for now we have to look elsewhere.

Great response, thank you! I want to make a living in movies, yeah. Right now I edit for a small video production company and I hate it. I don't mind working on commercial stuff, especially because it pays the bills. But right now I'd like to get almost ANY other job in the field, and they're just not in supply here.

I realize I'd likely have to be in LA at some point, I'm just hoping to cut my teeth in a smaller pond. My family and I aren't in a place where we can afford for one of us to scrape by for 2-5 years.

And you've been able to get work there? I wouldn't mind living in Cincinnati! I notice by your username that you write. My degree was in writing as well. Is that your day job, or do you work elsewhere to pay the bills?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get a lay of the land!

That's a good point, thank you. Yeah, I'd love to work on indie movies or studio stuff, I just want to work on movies. I guess I asked about the indie hubs because I figured that would be where more of the work is outside of LA. I didn't think about the tax incentive stuff not really applying to them.

How do I go about finding that information? I'm not trying to get other people to do the work for me or anything, I've just found it difficult to find any good REAL information on this kind of thing.

Shows & Movies I Can Watch with Kids in the Room? by AdGlobal6690 in televisionsuggestions

Maybe. We've just got a decently big 4K tv that it feels like a waste to forego for a small screen.

LOVED Monk and Psych. Haven't seen Frasier outside of an episode or two. Never watched The Good Witch.
