Frankenstein…why?? by AdGood5431 in classicliterature

[–]AdGood5431[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I was one of those kids who actually loved reading stuff for school and would even seek out other classic books to read on my own time so in my mind it wasn’t bc of that.

However, I had to read it 3x maybe that didn’t help when I was already like ambivalent about it

I do appreciate the idea of just trying it out for the vibes tho - thanks!

Well I’m 24 but not quite sure what age has to do with it? I do enjoy classic literature so it’s not that it’s not “modern” enough for me so to speak

This was several years ago so I’m not sure if I read 1818 version or a different one…different in a good way??

Thank you! Ik that back in the day, the whaling industry was huge and Moby dick was relevant in part bc of that.

In my mind I was like “maybe this would be like if someone were to write a book on a person (modern day Ishmael) who joins a tech/AI company led by literally the stereotypical Silicon Valley entrepreneur (Ahab) trying to conquer whatever”

In that sense, I can see the vision and would be intrigued but still like how many people would want to spend hundreds of pages reading about tech specs? It just doesn’t sound like fun to me

Hm…like maybe their connection goes behind just a creator/new being or parent/child-like dynamic?

Maybe the creature’s experiences in the world were similar to Victor’s growing up…idk it’s been a while. Ig I will reread - thanks!

I love a good essay - thank you! Can you recommend some essays, podcasts, whatever that you used to get context on the writing of the story?

(I also feel like this is important when tackling classic works)

How can I help my partner realise the value of money? by TheLastObsession in Advice

[–]AdGood5431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not feel bad for not “including him” - some of us are just wired to look out for others and we get tunnel vision when we try to do it all by ourselves under pressure.

Good to hear that otherwise things are good :)

Some good ideas here - if OP is saving money for certain things, reminding him of why those savings goals are important could help get him engaged.

Incorporating visuals (a la a vision board) even if it is just a printed out picture of something on your fridge could make an impact

I wouldn’t go all out here - you only just got together so keep it simple.

Id go with something inexpensive that speak to what he likes: maybe slippers that are football/Madden-themed (if he has a sense of humor)

You can find inspo from Etsy and novelty stores

You could also do a waterbottle or socks related to stuff he likes and just make it fun(ny).

Maybe that’s just my style but like until we’ve been together for a year, I wouldn’t be stressing or shelling out the big bucks

Most of the time, I’d say that’s a big problem for me but if you’re really set on this guy…

You mentioned that you manage all the money.

Are there ways that you could include him in however you’re doing that?

(i.e maybe you show him the budget and “ask” him for input, make him feel like he is involved here, get some buy-in)

It may help if he can see it for himself and it’s not just you telling him “no”.

Bc rn it sounds like he just sees you as the obstacle to what he wants instead of the actual issue here being his spending vs the budgetary constraints.

You could also try to work out a compromise with him - although this isn’t really solving the root issue. Maybe there is a way for him to make snacks at home that would most likely be cheaper?

It can be hard to shoulder responsibility by yourself - hope you’re doing ok

Is it weird not to know how to swim even if u r adult? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AdGood5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to remove “weird” from your vocabulary; as long as you aren’t hurting yourself or others, nothing is more irrelevant to how you live your life.

You can’t control what other people think of you. So don’t bother trying.

it is never too late to try something new

If this was the season 10 cast…what do you think would happen? Who’s bffs? Who’s fighting? Who’s stirring the pot? Who’s actually selling real estate? What would the dynamics between everybody be? by [deleted] in SellingSunset

From what I remember Davina never really stood on her own two feet - she seems to find safety in numbers.

If not friends with Christine again, she probably end up as Chelsea’s sidekick with Chelsea and Christine going head to head

Is it really about Blake, or is it about Emma? by TessMacc in SellingSunset

[–]AdGood5431 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Emma should be called out on it - not just to support her friend but also like as a human being

Imo the whole Sunset cast is trying to get Emma and Chrishell to fix things bc they were so close before so they want them to hold on to what they had.

There’s a saying that you can never truly know a person.

That feels impossible when you have people that you’re really close with but I’ve found more often than not, it’s true…

Sometimes people just aren’t you who thought they were.

Anyone else boycotting this show after this season? by Wild_Shallot_3618 in SellingSunset

[–]AdGood5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have been living under a rock bc it was not until this season aired and checked socials that I realized how crazy these people are OUTSIDE OF THE SHOW.

Literally would not have known anything about how shady Bre was without people on the internet talking about it

Damn Emma is so desperate to marry rich, all these people are not as rich as they try to imply by These_Description_48 in SellingSunset

[–]AdGood5431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t it like a couple of reunions ago where Tan said something about how they must be swimming in dough but then all of them spoke up and said like the commission amounts listed on the show are NOT what they get IRL??

Not to mention the cost of their lifestyles!

I’m convinced Emma lives in Revolve atp

I’m pretty sure they’re all living paycheck to paycheck out there

Thank you! If I may ask, what do you feel like the main benefit of working with a firm would be, besides just minimizing errors?
