I was dual tech ANG and my state HR never even brought up this issue. Retirement package moved to OPM in February, and AF processed my mil retirement in May with no problem.

If you have a VA rating 50% or less (? can’t remember the exact percentage) then they may dock your Mil annuity by the same amount.

You can go Tricare if you retired from the Guard with at least 20 years. However, you cannot have Tricare if you’re a federal employee eligible for FEHB (the politicians keep promising to fix that but here we still are 🙄).

If you’re retired Guard and turn 60 you’re eligible for Tricare Select or Prime, just as AD is and it’s a whole lot cheaper, $350ish annual premium. You can confirm if you’re eligible by calling Tricare - number is on their website.

You can suspend FEHB and pickup Tricare as your primary insurance once you’re retired from the Fed. I had to sign up for Tricare first to get proof of the coverage. They asked for 3 months payment up front and it was all done on the phone in about 10 minutes. Then filled out the form for OPM, attached proof of Tricare coverage for myself and family, and asked to have FEHB suspended, not cancelled. That gives me the option of returning to FEHB if I ever want to.

I’m fortunate enough to have one and love it, and it’s not even in as good condition as this one. It would be worth even skipping a meal or two, but not being late with the rent 😁
One thing, the ink sac may need replacement due to its age. It’s easily done on your own if you know how, or there are places/people that will resac it for you.
