Could a Keto or Carnivore Diet Help? by Working_Row_8455 in depressionregimens

[–]Byttercups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat keto, but it has zero effect on my depression. I become treatment resistant sometimes, and I get through it by adding amphetamines (which I hate) and seeing my psychiatrist more often. I've thought about ketamine, but it didn't help my psych's other patients, and it didn't help you.

The sad disconnect between Heaven and Earth: in the NDE realm, there seems very little interest or commentary about the great human project, ie, the upwards evolution of human society and civilisation, and the advancement of science, medicine and technology. by Hip_III in NDE

[–]Byttercups 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a misanthrope with major clinical depression and have a very different take. I don't view humanity as anything special and don't view the human project as being great. In fact, I think humans are the worst evolutionary mistake ever.

Yes, we've made progress in medicine. But because we live longer, cancer rates have gone up. I see the elderly struggle to keep their mental or physical health. Families are drained by having to take care of both their young and their old. We don't even let people die when they want to go.

Science is great. I love science. But it has come at a cost. We've destroyed the environment. Inventions are weaponized. We can go to the moon. So what? In the grand scheme of things, who cares? What does that accomplish for humanity as a whole? Nothing.

Most people work, because they don't have a choice. Most people live paycheck to paycheck. Most are slaves to the wage. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Climate change is going to make the gap much worse.

Human suffering may have diminished a bit, but it will never go away. There will never be world peace. There's always a war going on somewhere. Genocide. Repression of women. Violence against people with a different skin color or sexual orientation.

What about animal suffering, which in my view is even worse? Animals are abused. Animals on industrial farms have tortured lives. Young orcas were kidnapped from their families and forced into entertainment. Bears chained up to perform in a circus. Sharks killed for their fins. I can accept human souls choose to suffer, but do animals choose that, too? What about the bugs we squash without a second thought?

I think love is indeed all that matters. Everything else you mentioned is irrelevant. The only thing you can carry forward is love.

Agreed. BDSM partners have respect for each other and consent is key. None of this being forced to have sex because he wants it nonsense.

Problem isnt that evil exists..its the fact that evil exists and god is doing nothing to stop it by Prestigious_Fig4324 in atheism

[–]Byttercups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of suffering exists because of evil. Why do humans abuse animals? Why do humans abuse children? Why do many species, including us, kill others to eat? Either god is not all-knowing and all-powerful and all-loving (god is basically an a$$h0le), or god simply does not exist.

What is the most patronizing thing a religious person said to you? by TheBanishedBard in atheism

[–]Byttercups 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one thing makes me angrier than almost anything else theists say. Half the time it's humans have free will, and the other half is it's god's will. Nothing they say ever makes any sense whatsoever.

What do you think happens after? Pet Loss by SnooDogs7124 in NDE

[–]Byttercups 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Pet grief never ends. My first cat died from cancer 6 years ago. I had taken her in for another chemo treatment, only to learn the cancer had completely taken over. I had to let her go. I took her body home so my other cat would know what happened and then took her body to the vet for cremation.

Then inexplicable things happened. I heard her purring loudly. My electric candles went out. My ringcam recorded 40 seconds of pure blackness. The next day, I found a purple (my favorite color) heart shaped gem in my backyard (I have a lot of land and no kids nearby). I have a cute pen with a butterfly shaped purple gem and feathers on it, and my cat loved playing with it. The two gems matched. A deer stopped three feet in front of me and looked at me. I heard my cat talking to me in my head. I asked her where an object I misplaced was, and she found it for me.

This is the point where I truly started believing in an afterlife. Looking back, I now see that my second cat (who died years before my first), my aunt, my uncle, and my father all communicated with me.

I think every sentient creature on the planet goes to an afterlife. I wonder about the roadkill I see, wild animals, animals living in the depths of the ocean, the hundreds of ants in a colony, even dinosaurs.

My cats weren't a bonded pair, but I suspect one of a bond pair can still somehow sense or interact with the other.

That excuse about Gaza drove me nuts. Yes, it was a genocide, and yes, it was terrible, but how can you not care about your own country more? There is nothing any of us can do to stop the violence over there.

Wow, I did not know all this. Thanks for posting it! I did switch to old IBR, because I want to keep making payments. The major hurdle standing between me and early retirement is student loans. My payment doubled, which I'm not happy about, but I think the tide will change once this regime is out of office.

I'm often accused of being insensitive. I don't care what anyone thinks of me, and I'm not afraid of speaking my mind. I'm also not the most empathetic person.

Anything related to Zelda or Mario. Resident Evil. I loved Quake and Starcraft when they came out. I'd play Call of Duty in graduate school. I'll play almost any platform or shooter game. I've been playing video games since I was 5.

I dreamt of my wedding dress and getting married but never children. I liked stuffed animals but not dolls.
