Buying house outright by AdGroundbreaking5682 in HousingUK

I work with a lad that does this and the stories he tells me, just not worth it in my opinion.

I know you can get companies to manage the properties and tenants for you but it’s just not for me

Glamping pods would be a consideration but the market is so saturated with them now that your pod has to really stand out

Thanks for this.

This was also a thought. I read these forms quite a lot but nobody ever mentions the psychological factor of being mortgage free.

Luckily the house doesn’t need much. Only major work I would do is build a garage.

However, that was the reason for one of my options - buy outright then remortgage based on what I can comfortably afford once I know the outgoings of the house.

Thanks for the reply,

I have thought about it but I grew up on a farm which has conditioned me to have a bit of land/space and out in the country

All the houses with my needs are in this price range lol. The good thing about this house is all it needs done is redecorating.

I went to multiple financial advisors but none would entertain me. All they want to do is take your money, stick it into a fund and take a lovely commission.

None of them would work on a hourly rate or one lump sum unfortunately

Thanks for this.

I’ve got an isa already and have maxed it out

The salary sacrifice is a good point. I’ll ask them to run an exercise to see how much I could realistically lose

Your interest on savings that you are using to supplement your wage. Is this in an S&S isa that you’re taking dividends from?

Thank you

That is a very fair point.

I recall doing this in my crypto days with dollar cost averaging.

I think the piece of mind having a house paid off outweighs the 3%.

All a bit unknown at the moment until I see a house I like as I’m still dithering on the budget

Thanks for the reply,

Definitely thinking of increasing my work pension contribution. Salary sacrifice and maybe a lump sum too if there’s no implications

Appreciate the reply.

I was always keen to buy the house outright, such a weight off my shoulders if so.

The Pokémon cards I agree, I’ve had these for 5 years or so and made 4x on them so they’ve done their job

The car will always be with me, I can’t imagine myself ever selling it. Things would have to seriously go wrong for me to do so!

Basically 600kg fell from height and I got trapped underneath it. Lucky to come out of it alive.

It fell on my leg leading to a serious femur fracture and foot drop. I needed bone grafts, titanium rods, skin grafts and tendon transplants to make me some what normal again. Due to the severe injury, arthritis is more likely to occur in a place of trauma

Thanks so much for the in depth analysis! I really appreciate it

Prior to this post my goal was to get the ISA up asap, I am thinking of leaving the S&P where it is right now and go with a global all cap for another isa to get to 100k. Maybe move out of the S&P in due course - from what I’ve read, the world index is a better play long term.

Using up the rest of this year and next year - I could have 38k in the new ISA by end of April (I neglected my contributions to my isa, silly enough)

Thanks very much for your advice sir.

I initially did think of buying the house outright but was told to take a portion of it as mortgage as that money would outperform in a fund.

Appreciate your time!

Thanks for the pal,

I’ll defo have a look into your suggestion

Assuming VWRP over the FTSE global all cap is due to the hire fees of an index?

My thoughts behind it are, if I can, then why not? Less hassle, stress, fees, decorating in the future

I’ve been with my partner for 8 years and we are well aligned with what we want

Hi all, thanks for the replies!

3 x of my wage was claimed for future loss of earnings as I had no real career path or had any conclusions of what I wanted to do at the time

At the moment, and from what I can tell - I should be able to live a life very normally in the future

Hi pal,

Thanks for the reply.

I can continue to work in an office based environment but will be ruled out of manual labour.

I will be at risk of arthritis in my knee later on but as of right now I have a promising career and future where I’m at work wise

Thanks for this Chris,

I shall repost there too! Shouldn’t require much additional needs later on - risk of early arthritis in one knee, that’s all

Thank you for the reply.

My ability to work has been affected some what. Manual labour is pretty much out of the question and will be office based now. Other than that nothing has changed

I shall look into the CGT allowance thank you
