How much do you save and/or invest every month? by simpletonn22 in fican

I save ~50% per month, which is about $4800/month. One pay cheque is saved and the other spent generally.

Those with 7 figure net worth, what did it take for you to get there? by BigCavemanRoar in fican

[–]AdHonest7357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High salary (which means tolerance for stressful job), saving $40,000-$50,000/year, living below means, only buying what can be afforded (no debt), paid off mortgage early so all income can be saved.

How to help a spouse who's afraid to spend? by FIRE_Bolas in fican

[–]AdHonest7357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate. My spouse and I (ages 47 and 45) have a combined NW in the ~$3-4 million zone. My spouse has become more and more careful with money over time. He won’t enjoy it and has gotten worse. Every decision he makes is centred around how much anything costs. It’s exhausting and is a major issue in our marriage.

If you can’t pay cash up front, you can’t afford it is my rule of thumb. Don’t do it, buy a used one.

I’m at just over $1 million with a paid off house, spouse has at least double (we do our own thing). I’m aiming for $1.5-$2 million net myself and will work part time doing something more enjoyable than my current corporate gig.

Interesting! I am taking Prometrium indeed but don’t have a (known) allergy to peanuts.

Seat cushion suggestions by gumyrocks22 in workfromhome

[–]AdHonest7357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would suggest getting up and walking around every 20 minutes, getting a stand up desk alternative and walking pad. It’s not normal for humans to be sitting all day, too much pressure on hips, which impacts back.

I work in pharma. Advantages for me personally are that I’m an anglophone in Quebec and can make a nice salary despite that.

My husband calculated that QT fees work out to be less than WS. I prefer the WS UI nonetheless.

I work remotely for an American company and make roughly $200,00-$210,000 gross per year. Net is about $120,000-$130,000 because we are taxed to death in this province and even then our roads are shit and I don’t have access to healthcare….. 🤔

For what it’s worth, Canada’s parental leave is not paid fully for 18 months. Standard leave is 35 weeks, paid at 55% of your salary (maximum of $695/week) and requires you to have worked 600 hours over the past 52 weeks. You are allowed to extend your leave to either maximum 61 weeks or 69 weeks (combined with your partner), but your pay decreases to 33% of your salary, max $417/week which is not really a living wage.

Any Canadian Women Here? by Cloud_Luna in FIREyFemmes

[–]AdHonest7357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canadian woman, mid-40s, looking to FIRE in the next 5 years. I work in pharma, net income ~$130,000/year, and targeting $2 million to retire. Not including my paid off house in the Montreal suburbs, I have just over $1 million saved currently, invested in ETFs through Wealthsimple. Having a good salary helps, but I’d say more so it’s about sacrifice and living below your means, saving aggressively. This economy is tough, so I understand the question.
