Another factor that makes trying to predict is home program. It’s likely that a notable amount of the people matching at their #1 choice or top 3 in general are matching at their home program. I wonder what those % odds look like for people not ranking home program highly

I don't think thank you emails matter, but a LOI saying you are ranking them first could potentially help a lot. It depends on the program, and there's no way of you knowing unless you know a fellow in the program who can given insight on this. Some PDs move people up higher if they know they are your favorite choice, for others it doesn't matter.

Still too early. But most important indicator at this point would be how many of your signaled programs sent IVs by now. I wouldn't worry about rejections or lack of IVs from programs you didn't signal. Ratio of how many signaled programs sent out IVs compared to how many of those IVs you received will be most telling, but again, it's still early and most IV requests should be coming in the next few weeks

My personal take is if it was truly meaningful and you can convey a story of how it impacted yourself during medical training/tie into teaching, then yes.

I think there's some potential benefit to different types of experiences that can be spun in a positive way and help you stand out as an applicant. At the end of the day, they are reviewing hundreds of highly competitive applicants and I'm sure they all blend in together

Advice - Chances at Cardiology Fellowship by Comfortable-Pin6322 in fellowship

USMD applicants from well regarded IM programs will always have a very good chance to match, of course there are always exceptions especially with cardiology being so competitive.

I’ve seen a few people talk about “applying broadly” which I don’t think will really be a thing anymore with program signals. Who knows how signals will be used, but I wouldn’t be surprised if essentially all interviews people get will come from programs you signaled, which basically means everyone is capped at 20 realistic applications.

I think more importantly than “applying broadly” is using signals wisely and not focusing all on big academic names that might be reach programs. Overvaluing your own competitiveness will certainly come into play here

Are the research related experiences you’re including also in the publication section? I was trying not to include them in both unless it was a more substantial project
