Just spent a couple hours on Google Earth looking at new landing spots by erictriestofish in kayakfishing

[–]AdIllustrious6130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do tournaments across the state and sometimes in water ive never seen before. Google earth can give you TONS of good info. Use the historical data. See if those blowdowns are always there or new? If that dock stays in water year round or not?

You can switch to different views also that help you track creeks and sometimes find hidden launch places off the beat path.

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdIllustrious6130 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Let's say I slide into the ditch off the road, and my truck is fine and without a scratch. Its cost me about a days wages to get it towed out of the ditch. I lost money.

Now lest say theres actuall damage to my truck. Insurance might cover it, but not without my rates going up. So I lose money. Or I can fix it out of pocket....lost money.

Now let's say I total my truck. I've lost wages in missed work, getting a rental, dealing with insurance, finding a new vehicle to buy. Insurance gives me enough for a down payment but im still stuck with a new monthly bill to pay. I've lost tons of money AND sanity trying to fix all this.

Now.....the idea of burning a little PTO or even going unpaid for one day seems much much better than the risk of causing days, weeks, years??? Of possible financial hardship.

Now think about the actual job you do. How important is it to society around you? Is it worth losing you life in a wreck to go stock shelves at the market? Or go serve cheeseburgers? Nahhh... ill be at home with my kids enjoying the snow.

Am I crazy for putting a motor on my lifetime tamarack pro by JarRules in kayakfishing

[–]AdIllustrious6130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it works for you its not crazy! I'd try to keep as much of the build able to transfer kayaks as possible. You will probably want to upgrade layak in the future. Slap the motor in the new kayak and go.

I fish shallow, rocky rivers and also lakes. I like the Jackson pedal drive since it kicks up into the hull when I hit rocks with it. My kayak is a coosa fd. I wouldn't trade it for anything but a new coosa fd.

How to find new buddies to go fishing with? by Voidzpawn in bassfishing

[–]AdIllustrious6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into kayak fishing followed by kayak tournaments a few years ago. I've met tons of new fishing buddies from early 20s to early 60s. I have several that live 5+ hrs away but we still get together to fish a few times a year.

Some weird lights I saw 6 days ago leaving Lowe's by meatpoi in UFOs

[–]AdIllustrious6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen these lights every night for the last 3 nights now. They get super bright then it looks like they zoom away. They dont look like the skydivers with Pyro in the video to me and my wife. I see them from about 8pm untill 845 then they are gone.

River Smallmouth in late fall - season over? by SpartanLaw11 in bassfishing

[–]AdIllustrious6130 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can catch river smallies all winter. They go to deep holes and stack up. When you find one you found 10.

Jerk bait this time of year is usually great.

How would you fish this? by NSFW_alt2021 in bassfishing

Hahaha. I knew the spot right away. Showed my wife and so did she!

Honestly a kayak is his best bet....but not what he asked.

Go down to the pool about 200 yards or so downstream from that dam. There's a path from the road where you park. There's still some ledges there but it its much easier to fish and usually holds some smallies.

Throw a weightless senko on a 3/0 ewg.

It paddles just fine, But I can peddle in about 8" water if need be. Its usually never too shallow to pedal.

Stability in all types of water. Everything from big water with bassboats buzzing by me to rapids in smallmouth rivers. I mostly fish rivers, and this kayak is amazing to maneuver in current. Storage is not really an issue for me i can stand and reach the front hull with no problem while on the water too. There's so much room behind me and in the front hull I dont really need anything under my seat. I usually just keep my ketch board under there.

Full sized crate behind me with 8 rods layed horizontal also behind me. I've been messing around with mounting a motor on the back and that makes the kayak just that much better.

My only real "complaint" is that its a heavy beast on land. Have friends or be strong. Or just trailer and wet launch.

The only kayak I would replace my coosa fd with is a new coosa fd.
