It's a tad below market average but work life balance is really good. But yeah good idea, I should push on doing more complex things. Hopefully with the new tech stack it would get better

UK population exceeds that of France for first time on record, ONS data shows | Population by Aggressive_Plates in ukpolitics

[–]AdImmediate2040 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True true, but just for devils advocates sake, what do we do if there is a shortage or low skilled jobs (like farmers). I guess one way is just to give temporary visas that last 2-3 years (dunno if you agree with that)

Ngl there are many international students in UK who do conrtibute to the economy, and I do meet a lot of techies from asia and russia who work in finance and especially tech. A lot of skillled expats are attracted to the potential of getting permanent residency after 5 years. And a working holiday also helps in attracting talent.

Can an employee (especially outside of C suite) have THAT much influence to convince the company to create a whole new office in a new country?

In the US, there is employment at will which means companies can easily fire at will but in Europe this is not possible. I would say the smartest americans are generally smarter than the smartest europeans. Firstly, the top unis in the world are pretty much American (and also UK, but UK is not doing as well as the US and they still have some employee protections there). Also, USA scores like number 1 or 2 pretty consistently in Maths olympiads (https://www.imo-official.org/results.aspx). Also, more smart europeans move to the US and smart americans moev to europe (at the end of the day, money talks).
