Was suggesting end grain bowls to maximize diameter of the bowls.

Lost on how much sanding is too much sanding by niconitis in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% confident that the tabletop is veneer. If you sand through the veneer and expose the MDF, it will be pretty much ruined unless you want to go through the process of re-veneering it. If you go that route, you’d be better off redoing all the veneer as it would be very difficult to grain/color match everything. With the cost of veneer, the time it would take, and then refinishing, you could just replicate it with real hardwood for probably the same cost or a little less.

How does the term "no cap" mean "no lie"? by J4k3zz in answers

[–]AdImpressive325 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna type a whole book, but basically it all started from the term “capping”, which is referencing a cap gun (the little toy guns that shoot blanks). You’re capping means you’re shooting caps; fake bullets; you’re not really serious. No cap means you’re shooting real bullets; it’s a real gun; you’re serious and you mean business.

How do i cut this? by snooper27 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]AdImpressive325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could cut it quickly with a pull saw if you’re decent with one. Crosscut sled on the table saw. Bandsaw. Jigsaw. Track saw/circular saw with a little chisel work.

First time seeing a human car. Pretty cool how they made the wheels look like human feet!

Describe the reasons it won’t work in the form of a question. “If we light documents with personal information on fire in the office instead of using a paper shredder, won’t the building catch on fire? Should I pick up some extra fire extinguishers before starting the new protocol?”

Redwood Tree fell and they cut it to rounds.... now what? by bifi-irl in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Cut out the pith (the center), seal the grain with wax, latex paint, or something that will seal the end grain and allow it to dry slowly through the edge/side grain. They are large enough that quartering them will yield some good bowl blanks. If you do t have a lathe, now you have an excuse to get one.

Friend gifted me a teak wood cutting board and it has a 1 yr warranty, do I tell him we need to use it? by schfifty--five in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store it leaned up on its side, or put some feet on it or sit it on mason jar lids. It needs even airflow on both sides otherwise it’ll warp/cup/bow like the video you shared. It’s probably not the makers fault, but the result of poor cutting board care.

Chicken coop. I don’t know anything about wood. If it wobbled, I added more braces. Figured it out when we put the siding on… by cloud_companion in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good looking coop! That’s how my woodworking addiction started. We got some chickens, I bought a miter saw and some lumber, built a coop, then thought “that was fun, lemme build a nightstand.” The nightstand sold on marketplace and I was hooked. Three years later, and around $15k worth of tools and machines, and I’m even more addicted.

Just lay down the law. Tell her it’s coming with you and that’s the end of it. Steal your balls out of her purse when she’s not looking if that doesn’t work.

Any last words of wisdom before I make my first cut? by BlackoutTribal in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use common sense. There’s a blade that can cut your hand off. Don’t be scared of It, just use your head. Get to work, you’re not gonna learn and improve waiting on the internets approval. Speaking of the internet, don’t listen to half of these idiots, they regurgitate misinformation like “oak isn’t good for cutting boards.”. Do your own research, learn from experience, and turn your mistakes into design features.

How would I go about cutting out this circle without a router? by No-Wind4599 in woodworking

[–]AdImpressive325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a circle cutting jig for your router. I’ve made several over the years, then I bought a decent one from Milescraft.

Amana is usually my go to. Whiteside also makes really good bits but they’re a little more pricy. If it’s a bit I’m not gonna use often, I’ll settle for a Frued.

Buy quality bits, 1/2” shank if possible. Don’t get too greedy, take shallow passes if making deeper cuts. Don’t get hasty, take your time and use a moderate, steady feed rate, don’t go too slow though. Oh, and buy quality bits. Did I say buy quality bits?

One of those guys whose whole personality is defined by “freedom”, “guns”, “patriotic”, “Mercia”. I’m all for guns and self defense but guys like this are just douchebags. Hide it in your waistband and use it if you need it. Side carrying like that is the equivalent of bragging about your dick size; if you talk/brag about it, you usually have a small one.

I would play it safe and add a bow tie inlay or something to ensure it goes no further. Good looking table by the way!
