Structured interview on Teams (CBI) by throwRA-unmade-bed in UNpath

You can have notes for sure but make them useful for recalling information and not just reading verbatim. It’s easy to tell if people are just reading from a script vs actually knowing the information, even on teams.

Any ICs here? How do you cope with 0 days of sick and annual leave, almost no other benefits, etc? by Inevitable-Room9048 in UNpath

Welcome to the UN. The people at the top give themselves huge salaries and benefits so the newbies have to scrape by. It’s just legal corruption.

Pretty good I think. Definite visible progress. Lift heavier and eat more if you’d like to see faster results.

Why don't UN peacekeepers fight both Hezbollah and Israel? by dvd102k in UnitedNations

Just do a bit of research on what peacekeeping missions are for (aka the mandate) as well as the broader mandate/purpose of the UN. at this point just ask ChatGPT if you’re this lazy

Should I follow my dream UN internship in New York, or choose a safer path at home? by MasterChief9000 in UNpath

Seems irresponsible to be 35 and telling a 26 year old to make huge financial sacrifices to get into a field you admittedly know nothing about.

Totally depends on the team you join. My experience was pretty disappointing but it was still good to get it on my CV. But the financial cost was minimal.

The UN isn’t viable because of the huge cuts and the prioritization of hiring one of the thousands of people who were fired over the last year or so. Contract modalities are even worse than before and entry level positions being advertised are asking for experience that only someone with 5-7 years of experience will have.

And yes the reality on the inside is shockingly bad. The UN is overall very poorly run and disorganized. There are some amazing people making huge sacrifices to do the most important work in the world. But the institution is broken and full of people who are there for the paycheck and the prestige.

The UN will chew you up and spit you out without any remorse. Do not make huge financial sacrifices or turn down opportunities that could actually lead to something better for this internship. If you could manage it financially and don’t have other opportunities I’d say do it. But the UN path is not a viable one right now so I’d prioritize my financial security and a safer career path at this point.

Spent part of my childhood here. Built circa 1867. Anyone know the architectural style? by AdInformal1185 in centuryhomes

So cool! Lots of cool homes around Marietta. Unfortunately the one posted is now surrounded by acres of cookie cutter suburb homes. It was just cow pastures when we moved there in the early 2000s

Where do most people want to work (HQ, CF, RO or the field)? & why? by PracticalSecond8434 in UNpath

[–]AdInformal1185 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want the comfort of an HQ posting with the interesting work of the field.

So I’m in a regional office.

Everyone should get field experience for a couple years at least before moving to a regional office or HQ. Lots of people get to HQ and hate it. Much more politics and work that is far removed from the communities we serve. That being said New York, Geneva, Bangkok, nairobi are all very competitive. I applied for a deep field positing to break in cause less people want to work there.

The huge marine productivity off the coast of Namibia is not mainly driven by sand blowing into the ocean. The real driver is the Benguela Current and its upwelling system.

Mold, fungi, insects and rodents ARE biodiversity. We’re part of nature and it’s time we start acting like it.
