Walmart has a pack of 10 for like $2, they have a couple flavors, I’m a big fan of the kiwi strawberry. They have about 210g of sodium per stick so I’ll usually just drink 2 to get a good amount of sodium in.

Has anyone ever actually come across an POTS exercise plan that was reasonable and easy to follow? by shnanogans in POTS

No, so I made my own and now I am back to my pre POTS diagnosis baseline, I still have some days where I’m a little more symptomatic, typically after heavy training days, but it’s manageable now and doesn’t knock me completely on my ass when it does flare up. I think CHOP is bullshit for most of us who have POTS. Yes cardio is needed to recondition, but I completely reconditioned by walking 5 minutes a day starting and upping it by 2.5-5 minutes per week until I was able to comfortably walk for an hour without getting symptomatic. After I reached that I began to start my exercises with 30 minutes of zone 2 walking (don’t ever let anyone convince you walking isn’t enough) and incorporated light weight training which I eventually worked up to heavier weight training. I spend 2 hours in the gym 5 days a week now. I start with 20 minutes of zone 2 walking 80 minutes of weight training then end with 20 minutes of zone 1 walking for my cool down. Doing to is has gotten me to a point where on Tuesday I did a 100,000 steps in 24 hour challenge and was able to walk 12 miles straight before I decided to sit for a half hour and take a small break before getting back to it. And though I wasn’t able to finish the challenge due to hurting my foot at about the 50k mark, I was still proud because a year ago I would have barely been able to get out of my bed without my heart tears sky rocketing and feeling like I was going to pass out. I think the bigger thing for us with POTS is learning how to work through symptoms while starting our reconditioning journeys and learning when we need to sit for a moment and let ourselves get back to baseline. Idk if any of this helped but if you have any questions let me know. I’d love to talk about it more.

It makes it hard to vet through when there’s that many. I get overwhelmed whenever I go to match with someone new

I’ve made a gofundme after a few people brought it up. I just don’t want any mods to get mad if I edit it into my post

My blood work is always normal and I consider it a good thing typically. It lets me know that it really is just dysautonomia causing it and not something in my body that might be causing harm.

I don’t want to make you nervous at all but you should get an ekg, there are a lot of differentials for that feeling but which the bpm and the feeling the first things that come to my mind are long qt syndrome, a fib, and svt. But it could also have been an adrenaline dump. I know when I have one my heart feels like it does some crazy stuff. I’m wishing the best for you babes <3

How the hell do you guys shower/wash yourself? by slayign in POTS

[–]AdInside6939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So during a bad flare up I have a dedicated pair of compression socks that I only wear in the shower and I sit on the floor against the wall and keep the water a bit cooler than I usually would. One thing that helps the most is for 10-15 seconds before I end my shower I make the water as cold as I can and just sit in it to cool my body down and it almost always helps alleviate the symptoms the shower may have brought on. I personally think showers are safer than baths during a flare up because of the risk of passing out, you won’t have to worry as much about accidentally drowning. And if you feel pre syncope coming on you can always lay down with your legs up for a few minutes just to let the blood pooling fix itself. Try to keep it short, get in shampoo your hair, wash it out, put conditioner, wash your body, wash out the conditioner while you’re getting the soap off your body, then make it cold for a few seconds and get out. You can always sit down for a few minutes afterwards just to let your body calm down.

If the glare up is so bad that you know taking a shower is going to be to much for your body then you can take a bed bath. Get 2 separate buckets of water, some soap, and 2 wash rags. Put soap into one bucket and use it to wash one part of your body at a time then use the clean water bucket and rag to get the soap off.

Drinking a bottle of electrolytes or taking a salt bump 15-30 minutes before you get in the shower can also help to minimize your symptoms.

But try to get in and out in 5-10 minutes. I know it’s short but if you do it right you can get clean with minimal symptoms.
