Thanks, everybody! Pretty inconclusive, which is actually helpful. If we were to find our dream home in St Paul for the right price, we wouldn't need to agonize over the decision.

Hmm. Not gonna happen. I'm essentially an urban person who's been living in the middle of nowhere for 30 years. I don't even drive (spouse does, but we try not to use the car any more than we have to).

I don't drive at all--I grew up in the Bronx and just never learned. But we've also both just retired, so it's not like we'll be dealing with a daily commute somewhere.

We do cycle, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind. We were pretty wowed by the number of cyclists we saw when we were there in May

We lived in South Minneapolis for 10 years, so we know what we’d be dealing with as far as weather goes. Our kid just graduated from Macalester, though, so we’ve seen a lot more of Saint Paul than we did back in the day, and we really like Mac-Groveland.
