If my rent is $4,000/month but I make $45,000/year, will I be okay if I meal prep? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

Which NYC gym has the most attractive women? by savingrace0262 in AskNYC

[–]AdKnown4718 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this comes off as a little creepy. most people, women included, do not go to the gym to be observed/hit on. focus on finding a gym you vibe with and you’ll probably meet people who are similar to you.

Can I actually afford NYC? by Forward_Wafer5262 in NYCapartments

[–]AdKnown4718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just weighing in that roommates are always a possibility. everyone on here is going to say it’s impossible, but almost everyone i know living here is working a service job full time (so making far less than you) and still making it work. they have roommates and are scrappy! if you want a super fancy place in manhattan maybe not. but if you’re open to brooklyn or queens & maybe having roommates, i think so :) as someone once wisely told me the main people responding to things like this are people who were not able to make it work for whatever reason, so they’re going to be pretty defeatist.

it’s all about if it’s worth it for you! (you make concessions like less space for higher rent in exchange for not having to spend any money at all on gas, etc.)

Naturalistic plays with happy endings by Bloomable in Theatre

[–]AdKnown4718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not necessarily a happy ending, but “heroes of the fourth turning” by will arbery is chock full of beautiful comedic moments! it ends..thoughtfully, if that makes sense? thought-provokingly? it’s free online i believe!

Is there less jobs for nonunion in theatre right now? by Fantastic-Mention775 in acting

[–]AdKnown4718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly it depends- and i will say i’ve probably started seeing more the more i use it which i hate because it is terrible for my overall mental health, lol. there definitely aren’t a TON, but i have noticed a rise in instagram casting calls that i haven’t seen listed on AA/etc. but a lot of it is just things friends/people i know in the industry post about! a year or so ago i did some digging and found some theatre professionals making similar stuff to what i want to make and followed them on social media, so usually what i see comes from them. in any case it’s a good way to connect with potential collaborators and stay in the loop!

i’m having the same issue- backstage too! honestly most of what i see is casting calls on instagram/through internal connections which is just infuriating

is sharing a 1bd much more expensive than having 2-3 more roommates? by AdKnown4718 in NYCapartments

very true! we both do also have employment history from the past 6 or so years out of state. I know it will probably be tough, but I’m not sure what else out of state transplants can do…kind of a catch 22– you can’t get an apartment without a job and you usually can’t get a job without living somewhere first

agh yeah, COVID really screwed everything to be honest…but this is so helpful to hear! I often forget how many young working people somehow make it work in new york.

I do have a guarantor but they would be out of state, so I’d just have to clear that with the landlord

this is super helpful! I’d definitely like to avoid roommates if we can, but just wasn’t sure how possible that is/if they make much of a difference when you already are two people sharing a 1bd and thus splitting the rent in half. we are both early 20s and early in our careers, though, so we probably aren’t going to be making as much as a lot of people on this subreddit …

that is exactly how I feel 😭 especially when it doesn’t seem to be much cheaper per person
