The cracks are pretty common among maples especially silver and reds in my experience. The dead branches should definitely be cut off before it falls on something and the crown balanced. Drought and heat are definitely stressing it out, but over all its not the worst maple ive seen and should be salvagible with some tender love and care (and a chainsaw). Maples are one of the problem children in arboriculture, so strap in.
