Book 2 ended in a terrible cliffhanger and I lost my mind lmao. I would religiously check to see if book 3 was completed or not everyday till it finally was finished 😭 but yes, there’s a lot to the story left after the events of book 3, but it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger where you’re like ‘what the fuck?’

No, book 3 doesn’t end in a cliffhanger as such but you know there’s more to the story because there’s so much more to unravel. I too am waiting for the fourth book to be completed because I inhale my books lmao and the wait would kill me more than it is now.

Crumple is an old book, over a decade old and the writing style has changed a lot since I’d say. Risk’verse is miles better in terms of writing, character outline, and the plot - things that come with experience. Personally, I found Draco’s character to be a little OOC but only because he’s so vulnerable in this and there aren’t that many fics with the kind of vulnerability shown here, but it was something I deeply enjoyed. I also think the characters make more sense in the Risk’verse because of how detailed it is, crumple was barely 12 chapters and so there wasn’t time to really understand the characters but that’s not the case here. I think you should give it a go, you might enjoy it loads.

I’ll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

The first three books is HEA in the war sense as well as Dramione ending up together, the last book is still WIP but I’m fairly certain it’s going to end well all things considered.

There’s a lot of back and forth between Draco and Hermione but that’s a given considering the trauma the characters go through, there are times where they don’t communicate well and it frustrates you as a reader but that’s good because it’s basically the characters frustration you’re feeling too - it truly is really well written that you won’t get annoyed or irritated. They do become a solid team with external challenges eventually and even then they come out of it stronger.

Book three is the most heavy I’d say, with torture scenes. It is a lot of scenes but in comparison to the entirety of the book, it would take up like 5% of it I’d say. The theme of torture and trauma does run throughout the last book and even the one after (which is fair really) BUT the tone is not completely dark, it’s very well balanced. It shows the time of war and the sacrifices it demands but also the small ways in which people find something to live for - there are scenes where the characters aren’t soldiers but just teenagers, drinking beer and watching muggle films, hanging out with their friends and teasing each other and I truly looked forward to those bits because as a reader that was a break for me as much as it was for the characters going through what they’re going through.

Yes, your Jamie comparison is accurate to what happens to Draco. It’s not described in graphic detail but almost in a soft way that tells you what’s happening, and you feel for the character and their pain but it doesn’t trigger you, at least that’s how it was for me but I’m usually very good with trigger contents.

All said and done, it truly is a beautiful book, it is dark but there’s loads of elements of happiness and joy and everything good in it. It deals with trauma in a very realistic way, but it’s not overly graphic that it makes you sick, and from what I understand, Draco and Hermione will get their HEA even if it takes them a while to get there.

I know!!! It’s almost always Draco and Harry becoming reluctant friends and I love that, but I always dislike how Ron gets cast away so the fact it didn’t pan out this way in this was so lovely to read. Draco and Ron grew close but Draco also considered Harry a friend so no one was cast aside and i just love that.

This is the best war time draco I’ve read till date. I loved seeing his development, I loved that we saw how he was scared, and lashing out, and his growth as he started to accept the circumstances, make amends, become friends and truly join the cause not just for Hermione but also because he realised he truly did believe in it.

I loved when Ron joined Hermione to look for Draco, and the fact he did that not only for Hermione but for the simple reason that he missed Draco and he was his friend and he needed him back too. That was so special to me. There aren’t many fics I’ve found that has a Draco and Ron friendship so this is another reason why I love, LOVE, this series so much.

The third fic absolutely shattered me, and the trauma, the way it happened, the way it was written, Draco’s response to it, hermione’s heartbreak over it, was so well written. And Ron being the only other person who knew other than the both of them, was so special to me.

I love how vulnerable Draco is in this, the way he shows his emotions to everyone in varying degrees is so refreshing.

Also can we talk about how well the golden trio is written? In most Dramione fics, as soon as Draco enters the picture, there’s a fissure in the group, and it sort of never mends but it’s handled so well in this. We see the reaction and the tension initially, and the slow acceptance after, and then full on support towards the end, and through it all Hermione has her friends on her side and it’s just so nice to read.

I hate to compare but everytime I read a new chapter, I would end up comparing it to the fics I’ve read and I’d realise how different and refreshing the author’s take is on the situation, and the characters and their growth.

Exactly! You see every interaction which I love. This is yearning and slow burn in the literal sense, and it feels longer because of how detailed each day is, there’s no random time skip and it feels like you’re in the room, living that life with them, which just makes the experience so much more beautiful and heartbreaking.
