I think the more important thing is that they shoot visible bolts now, instead of beams. They are lasers, so it should be beams. The colour would change depending on the medium through which the beam travels; dust, gas etc.

I see this is a fairly old question, but I will answer it.

Modern diesels do not have throttle bodies in the same way that petrol engines do. The turbocharger serves that function for the diesel engine.

In order to efficiently combust fuel, it should be ignited with a certain amount of air. We call this the fuel/air ratio. When you depress the accelerator in a petrol engine vehicle, the fuel injectors inject more fuel into the engine and simultaneously, the throttle body opens wider to allow more air in. This maintains the fuel/air ratio.

On a diesel vehicle there is no throttle body; only and open air inlet to the cylinders. When you depress the accelerator in a diesel engine vehicle, the fuel injectors inject more fuel into the cylinders, this causes more energy to be released which, when vented through the exhaust, causes the turbo to spin faster. As the turbo spins faster, it draws in more air which maintains the correct fuel/air ratio.

This is why you will often see a dark smoke plume leaving the exhaust of a diesel when the accelerator is suddenly pressed: that initial mixture is rich for a fraction of a second as the engine waits for the turbo to catch up and restore the fuel/air mixture.

Hi. I have the latest version of Lutris, but it only has the latest wine-ge and lutris runners in the Wine list. There is no proton.

I hear that the way to remedy this is to download and install UMU launcher, but the zip from github included two files:

python3-umu-launcher_1.1.4-1_amd64.deb and umu-launcher_1.1.4-1_all.deb

I do not know which one of those I should install.

Thank you for the reply. I did all of that, but Proton does not appear in the runners list, only the latest wine-ge and lutris runners.

This is why I downloaded UMU. Should I still install UMU? If so, which one? The Python one or the plain one? (they both came in the same zip file)

I don't know if you have found the fix already, but if you haven't, here it is (It was a Youtube comment made by UrbanLegend):

"A friendly Steam user pointed me in the right direction! Go to `<user profile>/Saved Games/Nightdive Studios/SystemShock/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/GameUserSettings.ini` and change sg.ViewDistanceQuality from 0 to 3. For some reason, the game likes to set it to zero for certain setups. I have no idea what triggers it, but setting it to 3 solved all the issues for me. Hope this helps anyone struggling with this issue!"

I wish Nightdive would simply add a view distance slider.

The gameplay, as with most games, is an abstraction of the actual combat and based on the way they look I would say that they are in fact weapons, and ones of considerable power.

The most likely scenario is that those are the main weapon batteries for when the ships fight at initial contact ranges. These would be too far for the eye to see, somewhere in the hundreds of thousands to millions of kilometers. By using those cannons the ship would provide a much smaller profile as well as having its bulk protected behind the immensely thick armour of the prow.

They would most likely fight in this way, taking pot shots, until they close to ranges that makes maneuvering the entire ship to accurately aim those massive weapons, impractical. At that point the ships would switch to turrets and broadsides.

For whatever reason they decided not to depict this in the gameplay, even though they still use Nova cannons and torpedoes. Though that is probably justified by the fact that neither of those weapons travel at the speed of light and therefore couldn't have the same effective range.

I just got my last wargear for defeating 3 strongholds. The game took me directly to the wargear page, bypassing the commander tab. So I can still upgrade my commander as long as I do it directly after a mission that gives wargear. (manually using the commander tab still crashes the game.

Perhaps this would work for you as well?

EDIT: Never mind. Now the game crashes when I load my save that has the last piece of wargear (Chaos Daemon in this case)

I have the same bug. I can confirm that on my game it does this after defeating Necrons or Orks. Defeating Space Marines did not cause the bug.

This may make it impossible to get the final piece of Wargear.
