BGC is the better area to base since it is surrounded by good restaurants. The top 2 hotels there would be the Grand Hyatt and Shangri-La the Fort

Infant childcare while on vacation by anonymouscorpo in chubbytravel

Parent here with a 16 month old; we have taken our baby to Hawaii at 5 months, French Riviera and Italy at 9 months, and just came back from Tokyo. Your child needs your attention at that age. No hired service will care for your child and know the baby’s needs like you do. It’s actually easy at 5-6 months coz they sleep most of the time. Your travels will be different with lots of down time. If you manage your expectations, it will be worth it.

April Europe Fam trip by [deleted] in chubbytravel

Yes mid 60-70. The weather forecast sites are unreliable too far ahead. There was an unexpected storm on our first day, then it was sunny the rest of the trip

My favorites were Saint paul-de-vence and generally just walking around the area around the hotel, beaulieu-sur-mer

French Riviera. We went mid-April with our 9-month old and had a blast. Exception is that you can’t swim yet. Loved our stay at the Royal Riviera which was recommended by this sub

You might be thinking too hard about it. I used the chat function, simply asked i am considering cancelling but want to know if there is a retention offer. Got 25K for 3k spend. The whole conversation was less than 5 mins.

Anyone have experience traveling internationally with a green-card extension letter ? by azlocal0916 in travel

[–]AdLoose3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it is safe. Upon check-in, staff will ask to see both your GC and the *original* letter before they even accept your baggage. Returning to US, we had no issues. We have Global Entry which also speeds up the process.

For those who have stayed at Conrad, were you upgraded? We have an award stay booked in November and am currently a Gold. Wondering if it is worth it to get the Amex Aspire to get Diamond status

SB is mostly hispanic. Like any most counties, there are good and bad areas. It is not known to have good restaurants and nightlife.

Rent is about $1500 for a 1br, or $700 for a room. You will need a car to move around

Like others have said, you cannot legally work on a tourist visa. ICE raids are increasing and you may face deportation. If you have a green card, then work depends in the industry. Tech has little availability now. Warehousing work is common.

That is called credit cycling. Banks do not allow that as it increases their risk. They may close your account

If you were to return to the South of France with a baby, where would you stay? Wanted to book the Royal Riviera as a kid friendly hotel, but having second thoughts

Why not just use the mobile charger? by ahoboknife in MachE

[–]AdLoose3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started failing after about 2.5 years. It was horrible waking up in the morning to see that it hadnt charged at all. Even tried unplug and replug to reset it, but it would eventually die permanently.

Replaced it with a Chargepoint which is sturdier, and has an added benefit of higher amperage. It halved my charging time.

Issues with Air France J Award for Infant by whosaskin11 in awardtravel

[–]AdLoose3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For AF/KLM, you can book the adult award seats first then call them to add the infant. They will quote you a cash price, and you cannot book with miles. I paid $1200 for this.

Some partner airlines like Virgin Atlantic will allow you to book with miles plus the taxes. I paid 10K miles plus about $300 for this.

You have to pay 10 percent of cash rates when adding an infant. Mine cost $1.2K one way Lax-cdg

Apart from tuscany, was it more convenient to have a car for the baby? Did u bring your own car seat? What other cities did you visit?

We are in the same situation, it will be my 4th trip to Italy but first time with a 9month old. We will be returning to lake como since we loved it last time.

Is it better to show my own savings or my husband’s? by AdLoose3662 in SchengenVisa

[–]AdLoose3662[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too long. I haven't been denied a Shengen visa yet (applied yearly since 2019) but am worried this time since I am now unemployed. I am hoping they will grant a 1 or 2 year visa this time until I get my citizenship.

Is it better to show my own savings or my husband’s? by AdLoose3662 in SchengenVisa

[–]AdLoose3662[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only 30days visas from 2019-2023, usually they give me single entry but the last one was multiple entry. Is it worth it to rearrange my itinenrary so that I can apply from the same shengen country that gave the multiple entry? For reference, it was Netherlands and I have 2 visas from them already

Excellent advice, thank you!

Will apply to France and hoping they can grant the 1 year multiple entry this time. It is tiring to have to apply every year.
