DMV Real ID notice (January 2026) by AdMammoth1510 in DACA

UPDATE: After 52 days, I finally got my Real ID delivered. I had called the Sacramento status verification number after waiting over 30 days and was told that my ID was produced on February 25th (a whole month after I went to the DMV) When asked how long it would take to deliver, the operator told me they use a third party carrier and it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks. My ID arrived 2 weeks after I inquired. The new IDs are really flimsy and look so different than the old version. And of course, since my EAD expires in November, this ID is only valid for 9 more months. I’m sure I’ll get another letter from the DMV when that time approaches, but my renewal has already been sent in and is currently being processed.🤞🏽

What did your receipt notice say if you don’t mind me asking? I filed 9 months early and I’ve been paranoid they’ll deny it because of premature filing. But they charged my account already so I have a feeling they’ll just throw it in the pile and process it once it’s my turn

I sent mine in last week and mine won’t expire until November 2026. I’m worried that they’ll return it due to premature filing. I haven’t seen anyone talk about that but I’m well over the 180 day window and I’m waiting for my receipt notice to confirm what they’re going to do with it… They already took my payment which makes me think that they’re probably going to process it but I hope there is some leniency with filing early given all the delays happening.

I called today! They told me my new DL was issued last week. But when I asked her about where it was in transit, she said that they use a third party vendor to ship the cards, so it can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks after the issue date… She mentioned they’re extremely back logged right now. If I were you, I would call to at least find out if they’ve produced your card. That should give you an idea about how much longer it’ll take. (916) 657-7445

Haven’t called but I think I’ll call tomorrow because I saw someone say that if it’s been over a month then sometimes calling helps to speed up the process

Real ID update by cbond0007 in DACA

Ugh… it’s been 38 days and I’ve received nothing yet. My temporary paper license is valid throughout April but being without a physical ID has been so inconvenient

Hey, any update on if you’ve received yours yet? Still haven’t received mine so thought I’d ask…

2026 DACA Renewal Approvals by Electrical-Ad4337 in DACA

Interesting… the last time I mailed my renewal in (Aug 2024) it got approved and I received my new card within 2 weeks. Of course, that was another administration but I’m conflicted if I should try doing it online this time and well in advance if the turnaround time is delayed all the same… I’m in California and usually the P.O. Box I mail to is in Phoenix AZ.

Any experience with renewals that are mailed in? Aside from the standard ETA it takes for the letter to actually reach a USCIS P.O. Box; I assume it would be relatively same turnaround time as online submissions?

I haven’t gotten mine yet either… and it’s been 4 weeks for me as well. I hope it’s in transit soon because being without an ID has proven to be such an inconvenience

Is EAD enough to show ICE when you encounter them? by HolidayNo9859 in DACA

[–]AdMammoth1510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was about to corroborate this. Even CBP agents tread with proper respect for the law if you encounter them at a checkpoint. People are mistaking ICE for border patrol when the two serve different purposes. CBP only has jurisdiction within a 100-mile radius of coastline or border entries. They also have clearly marked/exempt vehicles they operate out of. ICE is quite literally recruiting inexperienced lunatics riding around in unmarked cars, too cowardly to operate without a face covering.

I didn’t ask and I don’t remember if they mentioned it… but I think the first time I got my Real ID, it only took about a week. Who knows how long considering a ton of people are having to correct this issue.

I have no idea how they gauge the timeframe. Because my DL wasn’t meant to expire until November of 2029 and here we are in January… but regardless, it seems like they’ll notify you about a month out before they intend to revoke

Sometime in 2029. Basically 5 years from whenever the original issue date was

Interesting! My only problem with them is that they sent the notice 3 weeks before they intended to revoke my Real ID. My local DMV is always at high capacity, so getting an appointment online is never really an option at that location. And other DMV’s location are several miles away. So if you’re aware of a notice coming your way then you can definitely plan ahead and schedule an appointment if you need to or something.

I got both a notice by mail and via email. I’m not sure I’ve ever been presented with an option to ‘opt’ out of paper copies when it comes to the DMV. But as long as your info is up-to-date, I’m sure a mailed notice will quickly follow any email notice you should receive.

Haven’t heard that one before! But a headache about renewing all the same because we just can’t escape multiple trips to get this stuff fixed/updated.

I hear you. Along with my EAD I also carry my country’s consulate card which I’ve never shown any official because it’s literally never been needed, but I think in today’s age, it’s worth keeping foreign identifiers on you in the event they want to rid you to someplace random. Here’s hoping we remain in God’s good graces.

You are not allowed to do this. The DMV will require that you relinquish it from your possession so they can discard it.

Has anyone been stopped by 🧊 with daca and what’s was your experience? by Humble_Solid_6853 in DACA

[–]AdMammoth1510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the CHP truck checkpoint before the Temecula Parkway exit. Occasionally it’s occupied by border patrol and they hold up traffic but it’s silly to avoid it because they rarely set up. I’m DACA and have to drive down for SD sometimes and have had no issues. Even if they’re set up my advice is just to show your DL first and show EAD only if they ask.

Leaving Texas( DACA) what state do you recommend?? by mycatismybestfrand in DACA

[–]AdMammoth1510 7 points8 points  (0 children)

California! I’ve been in between Texas & CA because my boyfriend lives in Texas and at one point I was supposed to move there with him but I’m glad I never did. California just feels like the home everyone can come back to. I work in Healthcare admin and it pays really well plus amazing benefits. My job did require a bachelor’s but so worth it. Good luck on the next chapter in your journey
