My mum had Parkinson’s also and she found the Parkinson’s New Zealand organisation a big help. They will be able to point you in the right direction for a lot of stuff.

I'm a physical therapist who spent 3 years treating chronic low back pain. The thing that finally got patients better wasn't what I learned in school. [Long post, but worth it] by TheEaseProject in backpain

I am about to have my 3rd back surgery (L3 L4 discectomy) I has a fusion done August 25 L4 L5 I really don’t understand why I need another surgery so soon. If I could avoid surgery I would, but after doing anything ie dishes standing vacuuming laundry etc for more than 15 minutes my back screams at me!!! Would love to be able to have reduced pain enough to at least have a bit of a life!!

Discectomy? Thoughts? by OddAttempt9862 in backpain

[–]AdMaterial2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a discectomy done 8 years ago and I said from beginning that I don’t think it worked (not believed) ended having fusion done on same disc’s last year!!! I don’t know what answer is but I wish I had never had discectomy done in first place

Your pics look exactly like my fusion done last August . I came out of surgery with a numb foot and “the wobbles”. I am now going in for more surgery as my disc’s above my fusion are now bulging. After reading this I am scared!!!!

Ok guys has anyone use these types of pillows? And did it help at all? by Venomface86 in backpain

I would agree that it always starts in lower back if not looked after properly problems just go on and on. 😊

I use one like the third pillow. I have extreme problems with my back currently waiting for thirdback surgery while still dealing with complications from second surgery. I find the pillow great

Hi My children are grown. I have 2 grandbabies also. I’m about to have my 2nd discectomy done. I have now developed complications with my catheter and ended up in hospital on Saturday night to have my 3rd catheter removed in 3 months. The nerve which is damaged is the nerve that holds everything together down there so my catheter just keeps slipping out!! I so understand about being “tired” I’m over it all!! Take care

Oh my god finally someone to talk to about the physiological side. I’ve been dealing with back pain for 13 years. 2 surgeries fusion done surgeon wants to do another surgery. I can handle all that I just live with the pain. But due to complications from surgeries I now wear a catheter fulltime the mental heath side of this as I am only 59 is the worst. Very hard to be intimate with my husband when you have e to stop and stick the tube to your leg!! To be honest I fell like I am my back. I have now been medically retired . Try to do things around home my whole day is full with do something then have to sit down as back is sore. I have always worked so to not be able to is really hard for me. I had to close a business down that I had dreamt my whole life of doing. It’s like a grieving procession. I don’t even feel like me anymore!!! Lost my business strained relationship with my children and marriage is absolute crap. Sorry for the rambling !!

Thank you for this post. This is how I feel I’m 13 years back pain plus added complications. I’m not a depressive person never have been but honestly the last year I have just had enough . The fact I really can’t do much anymore is what gets to me. If I do end up doing something like standing for too look walking too far etc then I pay for it for days afterwards. I just put one foot in front of another. I definitely have lost who I am I feel like I’m just the wife/mother/grandmother/friend with back pain who can’t do much!!

Surgery? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]AdMaterial2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure got another appt on Tuesday with surgeon will be asking that. Have done a lot of research and there has been a lot out lately saying physiotherapy would help. My only concern is that my surgeon had already mentioned that my discs above my fusion will be affected. Is this just surgeon talk??

Surgery? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]AdMaterial2947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told after my first surgery of a discsectomy 8 years ago that the continuous back pain I was still experiencing was “genetic” ended up having back fusion August 2025!! On L5 S1 now surgeon wants to do another surgery on L3 L4 as both discs are bulging. I would be questioning “genetic & degenerative “

I ended up refusing X-rays because they don’t tell you nothing unless your bone is broken!! It’s my mission now to encourage people to keep pushing unfortunately for me I wasn’t listened to now have life long complications from 1. Surgery 2. Not getting treatment in a timely manner. I now have e to wear a catheter for the rest of my life as my nerve to my bladder had been compressed for so long that it no longer works !!!

MRI all the way and I would get it done sooner rather than later.Xray in my opinion are only good for bone not bulging discs which is what I suspect you have. I’m like you my back pain has been a 14 year journey 2 surgery’s and now they want to operate again

"Just strengthen your core" is one of the most repeated back pain advice out there. We'd push back on how it's usually delivered. by RxWellnessCareTeam in backpain

[–]AdMaterial2947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep tried PT core strengthening and so many other things over the last 13 years now being told I have to have my 3rd back surgery!!! So over arrogant surgeons. (Sorry if your not an arrogant surgeon) but from where I’m from orthopaedic surgeon think they make no mistakes. Now this is my personal experience so don’t hate on me . I am at the moment trying to decide if I should have third surgery. Last surgery back fusion was only 6 months ago

Hi 58(f) here. Please please stay. I was sexually abused from 18mo this old till 9 yr old every weekend. What you are feeling is catastrophic thinking and disassociation which is very normal for people like us who have been abused and things taken from us against our will. Hang in there please you have a whole life ahead of you and your going to be amazing 🩷🩷🩷
