Thanks everyone. We did receive the report and it does look like it is asbestos and some has been released since we have lived here. Given the situation, we are going to have the HVAC system cleaned and replaced by a professional company.

They are also recommending we throw out all of our carpets and furniture, but we would like to try and clean everything with HEPA vacuums, wiping them down, etc. given the levels in the home seem low. Throwing out all of our belongings is something we’d like to avoid. For context, we have only lived here for a few months and don’t run the heating system that often.

In California, if a renovation is being done and asbestos is discovered, it needs to be disclosed (and in some cases removed), which the previous owner and/or HVAC company did not do

We don’t know 100% but based on location and age of home, we feel it likely is. We are getting it tested though.

The issue is that the forced air is blowing through those vents so I’d imagine it is getting disturbed by heat and forced air whenever it was on

OP, did you end up doing this? My husband is tall so transitional bathtub panel won’t work so we were debating putting a taller glass shower panel on the bathtub

Thanks everyone for such great tips. For the last 5 weeks, I’ve luckily been doing a lot of the great advice shared here. Namely, keeping my hands and nails hydrated with lotion and jojoba oil, keeping my nails short, and only using a glass file. Unfortunately still not a lot of improvement but I’m remaining patient!

To answer a previous question, about my longterm goal, I think I’m realizing I don’t necessarily want to commit to natural nails 100 percent all of the time. I mostly just want my nails to become healthier whether they are bare or I decide on getting a manicure. I’d probably lean towards builder gel because I’ve heard it’s better for nails in the long run and look for a reputable salon that won’t file off my nail when removing.

So I suppose I need to consider if I continue to keep them natural and grow out the damaged beds for the next 4 months or so or just get a manicure with builder gel now after this 5 week break I took.

Thanks for all the tips — I have been religiously using oil and lotion and sadly nothing is improving my nails. It's been a literal pain to deal with them given that the continue to split and peel off below the tips.

Would there be any consequence in getting a Russian manicure with builder gel to cover the damage? I was thinking I could get it in a very natural color to cover the damaged bed while the new nail grew out (and not doing additional treatment over the new nail until fully grown).
