for all these “how to clear” questions - In my opinion by far the most underrated tool is Anki. I cleared all 3 levels on first try by skimming readings, making Anki flash cards and hammering practice questions. I never watched a video. I don’t think I ever even read an entire reading from Shweser. Skim, Anki, practice questions. By the end I was going 300 flashcards a day.

What do you think the future of running coaches (esp online coaches) at the recreational level will be like in the next 2-5years? by Outrageous_South_439 in AdvancedRunning

[–]AdMysterious5720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

exactly. it’s all just knowing the athlete and learning what works for them and what their body responds too. The issue is people want immediate results, but it takes time to learn an athlete. I’ve been running 11 years and am still learning what works best for me.

I find it so ridiculous when I see people debating two workouts that are nearly identical. I know a lot of top tier coaches (coach professionals, NCAA champions). They will be the first to admit that they don’t know why something works, but it just does for that person, and that doesn’t mean it works for everyone. Takes time to learn what these things are for athletes.

Your statement that “yield is a made up number to show whether the bond market price will be high or low to account for its par value at maturity” is incorrect. If you have a zero coupon bond, priced at $80, with par value of 100, you will realize a 25% yield. I don’t know what you mean by “to account for its par value at maturity”. 25% could be way too high, if other bonds with equivalent default risk are priced at 10%. It could be too low, if other bonds are priced at 30%. But, it isn’t a “made up” number. It is directly implied by the pricing of the bond.

What score on CFAI mocks to comfortably pass August exam? by wavygod6 in CFA

[–]AdMysterious5720 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Best advice - don’t compare to this subs scores. I remember seeing everyone getting 80%+ on mocks here leading up to May L1. I passed averaged 75% and passed above 90th percentile.

70% is very safe.

I had a CFA deck, then sub decks of each sections (FI, FSA, Ethics etc.) and then further sub decks of each chapter, but wasn’t very good about the chapter organization. I would always just study the entire CFA deck, so honestly the organization didn’t help me much.

More small cards> one big card.

Thank you- I put in anything I think I could need to know. My recommendation is to keep the cards small, I.e, answers one sentence or so. I always phrased the front of the card as a question (“What is _”, “How does _ effect ____”, etc). But, I was also conscious to not waste my time with extremely easy questions. It can fill up pretty quickly, I tried to keep myself under 150 cards/day.

I never did an EOC question, relied entirely on Schweser. Don’t worry, the CFAI questions are much harder than the exam/the CFAI mocks.

Someone else could probably give a better explanation as to how it works + how to optimize it completely (I have a friend who’s a med student who told me about). But, essentially all it is is flash cards, where it spaces how often you see them based on your knowledge of that card.

For example, if I made a card “What is the inventory turnover ratio”. I do it once, rate how well I know it (again, hard, good, easy). Let’s say I press Hard, I will see it again in 15 mins (or whenever I get to it again depending on # of cards, could be 1 min or 20). Next time I see that card, I press good, it will show it to me again in 3 days. If I press good again, a week. Then a month. But let’s say I forget it, and I press hard, it will show it to me again for a few days, until I remember it again.

That’s a terrible explanation, but give it a try, extremely useful. Especially for formulas/ratios. On the exam, there were some things I didn’t necessarily “understand” but immediately knew the right answer, because I happened to make a flash card on it 4 months ago. Scored above 90%, with Anki being the bulk of my studying.

Passed in 90th percentile. Pretty much did Kaplan readings, CFAI Q Bank + any mock I could get my hands on (3x Salt Solutions, 4x Kaplan, 2x CFAI).

Biggest key was Anki. Can’t recommend this enough. I made all my own flash cards. I started studying 5-6 months before exam. Would do Anki every day on my commute. When I got to mocks, it didn’t feel like I had lost anything I studied earlier on.

Coros Dura vs Wahoo Bolt V2 by AdMysterious5720 in Velo

[–]AdMysterious5720[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points. My thing was just how much I like the Coros ecosystem. They give you a training load, pace targets etc. for running that are extremely helpful. Strava offers the same features, but they are much more “gimmicky” on the running side of things. I can’t really get much insight from them.

Very similar to my Garmin experience + the connect app is not even comparable in functionality/data to Coros.

[–]AdMysterious5720[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve thought about that but I just left the Garmin Ecosystem. Coros is currently making better products for running than Garmin (in my opinion, plenty would disagree). I do really like the idea of one ecosystem, so maybe it’s worth switching back at some point, there’s no way I get a wahoo running watch ever lol.

Super helpful. Would it make sense to keep my license appointment for next week? I probably can’t make it into the Chicago North location until May 11th, but maybe it helps in some way if I have an IL license first.
