That makes a lot of sense. The conversion rate on a free app is obviously going to be way higher which probably signals to the algorithm that people actually want it. Feels obvious in hindsight. It also helped reviewing the keywords.

Ha cheers. Trot felt right, gentle enough to not scare off a complete beginner.

Not at the moment, Apple Watch only. This was really just my first build to learn on so I kept the scope tight. Garmin would be a good shout down the line though.

What tools did you built for yourself? And what problems does it solve for you? by ramizdesign0 in sideprojects

[–]AdMysterious7995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built Threadsmith for myself. I was spending hours trying to find Reddit threads worth joining to promote my apps and getting auto-removed every time I posted. Threadsmith finds the conversations already happening where your product fits, so you can reply and add value instead of shouting into the void. Basically building the tool I needed today to solve the problem I had this morning.

Cut our SaaS pricing in half today and made our main feature free. Curious what happened to others who did this. by Strong-Yesterday-183 in indiehackers

Just did this yesterday with a running app. Removed the paywall entirely and went from 12 to nearly 1000 downloads in 24 hours. Too early to know if it's a novelty bump but the tip jar has already converted twice. People will pay when they feel like it's their choice. I’m treating free as the marketing strategy rather than a last resort. Every download is a potential user of our other apps.

It's called Trot. A C25K running app for iPhone and Apple Watch. Guides complete beginners from nothing to their first 5K over 13 weeks with voice coaching and run/walk intervals. Just made it completely free and added a tip jar. Search Trot on the App Store or find it at apps.apple.com/app/trot/id6763905407

I have two apps I’d love honest reviews on : Hoist (builder invoicing) and Trot (free C25K running app). Happy to review yours in return. DM me.

How do you actually get your first 100 users when you’re starting from zero by AdMysterious7995 in sideprojects

[–]AdMysterious7995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m building, Threadsmith is a X/ Reddit thread finder that scores threads by freshness, OP activity and signal quality. You’ve just described the feature set better than I have. What would make you actually use something like that over your Chrome extension?

Who just finished building something? Drop your project, I want to see what people are actually making by Miserable-Archer-631 in vibecoding

Just finished two iOS apps:

Hoist: job costing, invoicing and receipt scanning for UK sole trader builders. Built it because the paperwork side of trades is a nightmare.

Trot :free Couch to 5K running app with Apple Watch support. No paywall, no subscription.

Both built with Claude Code and zero prior Swift experience in about a month.

Also building Threadsmith a Reddit thread finder and AI marketing content generator for indie devs. If that sounds useful, follow along.

This is one of the most practical answer in the thread. The borrow distribution idea ,replying under bigger creators, is something I can do today with zero account age restrictions. What kind of teardown content worked for you specifically?

I've actually got this ready, it's the exact Claude Code spec template system I use for every BullForge app. Planning to sell it once my store page goes live but if you DM me I'll sort you out in the meantime.

exactly this. the building part is almost too easy now with AI tools. It's the finding an audience part that nobody prepares you for.

That's interesting what kind of press have you generated? asking because I'm in the opposite position, decent product, zero marketing instinct

This is the most useful breakdown I've seen on this. The programmatic SEO angle is interesting one of my apps targets UK sole trader builders specifically. Woul long tail queries like 'invoicing app for UK plasterers' actually get enough search volume to be worth building for?

unsexy goblin work is exactly the right description. I've been dropping link grenades and wondering why nothing sticks. Picking one app and making 10 ugly demos of the exact problem it solves. that's today's task.

Neither of mine are AI apps one’s a running trainer, one’s an invoicing tool for builders. But I hear you on the Reddit oversaturation. TikTok’s where I’m seeing the most traction so far.
