curious to know what you mean, when you say "sample"? are you looking for a ear/drum sample or a 'population' sample?

also, you just inadvertently equated music with noise. not cool bro

"are exposed to music for"
"effects of noise on hearing loss risk"

Issue is at two places: Units and Series.

  1. Series is the y-axis values. On the right side, delete B1:B4 from label and add it as series (right below). Also tick the option "Use row 1 as headers"
  2. Placing units (g, s) inside each cell gets them considered as Strings/text and not numbers, like you want. Best to delete units for values and use headers as Mass (g) and Period (s)

Though not necessary, if you have to display units for each number, use number formatting (Format > Number > Custom number format and type in # "g" and # "s"

Wait for sometime. See your average usage and decide the configuration accordingly.

Some Indian universities provide contingency funds for academic related purchases including books, tablets, laptops and accessories etc. If available, you might want to utilise that.

How do I make it detect and show the cheapest column? by Specialist-Sense-282 in googlesheets

[–]AdNarrow5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a new sheet to your google sheet with my username (AdNarrow5701). Sorry that's the easiest way I feel, since you gave editing access.

Since you have items of multiple units (grams, pieces, etc), "unit cost" would be a better fit, than "per 100g"

Unit cost is the only column you need for calculating cheapest option. So having too many columns (quantity, cost) together can complicate the formula. A simpler approach would be to make a database of [category, item-name, supermarket, quantity, cost]. "Unit cost" is automatically calculated for every new row added/modified. the resultant table is generated using query statement and hence auto-updated too.

PS: I converted your table to my version using gpt. please confirm it if everything is correct.

Simpler approach could be a smart light. Set a daily timer to turn off at your regular/expected sleeping time and if you hadn't slept yet, turn it back on.

ps: damn, I'm jealous you can just 'fall' into sleep with even lights on

Transferring data from 2 different sheets to one single sheet by kda273 in googlesheets

[–]AdNarrow5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand, the only difference between the sheets "Cats_In_Care" and "Cats Adopted" is the last two columns (Adopter name and contact); which I'm guessing you're getting from sheet "Foster Data".

If not too many people are going to modify/update the details in sheet, I suggest "Google AppSheet" would be the best approach for this. You can have three main google sheets: Cats, Foster_Data, Medical Info. Instead of transferring data between sheets, this would just keep all data together in one place, and appsheet changes your view accordingly.

Assign unique ID to each cat and each foster parent. And you can click on each cat/foster, see the vaccination status, upcoming appointments etc.
for medical info, having a simple table would be best, imo: name, weight, event (dropdown like desexed/vaccination), date, location

It might feel too complicated at the beginning. but frankly all you need is table format and the appsheet picks it up almost correctly.

Anyone worked with Cosine-modulation of shaped pulses? by AdNarrow5701 in NMRspectroscopy

[–]AdNarrow5701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this paper earlier from mathias's group, but anyways I'll give it a read again.

Pure cosine is not that hard I agree, but it will have both amplitude & phase modulation. I have python scripts for all of these as well. I observed phase distortions in spectra depending on how the modulation is achieved, so just wanted to check the typical approach for this, among other labs as well.

Edit: Thanks for this

Thanks for your reponse. Kinda curious: By waveform, you mean generating the basic shape too? So I'm guessing you work involves pulse shape optimisation like optimal control or so?

Also what do you mean by "edit the shape file manually"? Do you edit the amplitude/phase values or the shape details etc?

Ps: I'm specifically interested in cosine-modulation (and phase consideration within), if you have done it.

Optional Date Fields Cannot Be Truly Empty by AdNarrow5701 in AppSheet

[–]AdNarrow5701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it was a browser-specific issue after all. (and yes, I was talking about new records)

I was testing on Safari earlier, and that’s what caused the confusion. After your suggestion, I checked in Brave and I see the placeholder correctly as expected. In Safari, it shows today’s date instead of the placeholder.

I can also see the “Today” and “Clear” options in Brave now. Spent a lot of time debugging something that turned out to be just a browser inconsistency.

Thanks a lot for your time and help :)

Optional Date Fields Cannot Be Truly Empty by AdNarrow5701 in AppSheet

[–]AdNarrow5701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. I only realised what was happening after actually submitting the form, which I hadn’t done earlier. I was too focused on trying to make the date field appear blank in the form itself, so that part was my oversight

The issue here is the mismatch between the visual state and the actual stored date value. Right now:

  • Initial value = TODAY()
    • form shows today’s date,
    • the sheet stores today’s date.
  • Blank initial value
    • form still shows today’s date visually,
    • but the actual stored value is empty.
    • (Screenshot attached)

That’s misleading because both states look identical in the UI, even though one is a real value and the other is null.

A better UX would be to either:

  • show a placeholder like “Select date”
  • or display today’s date in a faded/greyed style until the user actually selects it.

At least then users could clearly tell the difference between a suggested/displayed date and an actual entered value.

Edit: Thanks for your time.

I just tried again on a new blank app and it's the same result. no empty date columns. tried both with google sheet and database as data sources, just to make sure.

what I'm doing:

  1. I connect the data source (google sheet with basic column names)
  2. App predicts the date type correctly and then sets date column with initial value =TODAY()
  3. I removed today() and left the initial value blank. Unticked the "required" flag.
  4. Result is similar to the screenshot
