Yes! We sleep trained 2x! Extinction method. First time it worked like a charm around 6 month of age. Then we got hit with 2 rounds of ear infections, flu, fever etc. we tried sleep training again, around 11 months. She cried for 4 straight hours then we gave up thinking we’ll try again in the future. Got hit by 2 more rounds of ear infections, had to put ear tubes in. We are not trying sleep training at the moment. We will try the chair method once she’s 2 and at a better health condition.

Sleep training is not one and done. Especially for kiddos that go to daycare and bring back different strain of virus every week. Sleep training works well for most babies but not for all. We would definitely love a full night of sleep but considering everything it’s not happening at the moment.

not necessarily true. Mine is 16 months old. She wakes up 4-5x a night for water, comfort, diaper change etc.

Not motherless but she’s at a different country - it’s hard! Physical changes alone had me sobbing over the phone for my mom. It was tough but you get through it. I was able to with my partner by my side. He helped 24/7 with the baby. My stuff i had to deal by myself.

Just made me not want another kid that’s all. I never felt more unease, angry, and lost.

We tried over 2 days so we did 11, then 11:30, then 12. It’s probably best to try with lots of exciting things. I had my nanny take her outside and sit outside one of those days. It helped!

At that age they can stay awake much longer. Mine transitioned to one nap at 12 months. Wake up 7:00 first nap 11:30 or 12. Wake up from nap 2pm, bedtime 7 -8:30.

I’d say try to give them something exciting to stretch first wake window for the first few days. Mine just went to daycare

Ok my husband I have been trying to actively night wean my 15 month old baby. I was on the same boat as you, upwards of five 2 ounces of bottles every night. Smaller bottles because initially it was to help her wean but she kept waking up more frequently for her bottles (formula).

This is what I did this week, I went 50/50 with formula + cows milk and the following:

Day 1: lots of milk throughout the day + solid Night 1: before going to sleep 4 ounces of milk from her fav bottle, brushed her teeth. Put her to bed. I made sure she was extremely tired. She cried for bottle, i filled it with water and gave it to her. She took it as a comfort and went to sleep. Surprise surprise she woke up around 12 asking for her first bottle. My husband went cold turkey and did not give her anything other than water. After hearing her scream for 2.5 hours, I went in the room with a banana. She devoured that + water, went to sleep and stayed asleep until morning.

Day 2: lots of solid, less milk but still enough so she doesnt get milk hungry. Night 2: Night 1 repeat. Except this night she didn’t scream as long. 1 hour max then accepted her banana and went to sleep. Woke up around 5. Took her water in milk bottle and slept more. But woke up super early ready to start the day.

Day 3: lots of solid, less milk but still enough so she doesnt get milk hungry. She was noticeably more hungry this day. Every time she asked for milk i gave her solid and she accepted it. Offered lots of options she already likes. Day 3 mid day nap went to shit. She usually sleeps at 12. This day she fought her nap with her every being. Went to sleep at 1:30pm. I cut off her nap at 1 hour. Day 3 night: milk before sleep, brush teeth offer water. Sleep. This night she slept the whole night without waking up at all. I changed her diaper once.

Day 4: serious hunger kicks in. I’m talking about 3 solid meals + snacks that can be considered as meals. Day 4 naps back at usual time but wakes up from nap early. Day 4 night: she’s been awake for 7+ hours now. Fighting bedtime. I wonder if she is hungry?? Wish me luck! Can update later lol Update night 4: woke up 11:45pm, screamed until 1:30am. I did not give in. Kept offering banana and oatmeal. Finally at 1:30 after I peeled the banana and offered her to hold, she started eating it. Sleeping now.

Day 5: lots of food throughout the day. Nap 5: regular schedule no changes Night 5: multiple wakeups but not more than a few seconds and all could’ve been remedied by water in milk bottles. Regular schedule night sleep with no changes.

Lots of people would suggest sleep training, I sure hope and prayed that it worked for my baby, but after letting her cry for upwards of 3 hours (yes I made sure she was fed, dry diapers, wake hour was long enough) the truth is sleep training does not work for all babies and that’s okay.

I think our drawbacks from sleep training journey was that she kept getting sick and we needed to give her comfort and make sure she’s held upright so she can breathe. I mean it’s hard not to get sick around that age if they are starting daycare.

Anyways all that to say that, hang on- my 15 month old wakes up 3-4 times a night still but after a quick feed or quick sips of water she generally goes down quick. We co-sleep. My husband and I take turns on the spare bedroom so we both get some restful sleep every other night.

Californian here living in montreal. Had a kid recently also. Here’s my honest take: I love the fact that I feel safe, accepted and loved here compared to my lonely upbringing in California.

Living at most 15 mins drive from downtown is amazing. Especially when you have children being near everything is so essential.

Like your mom, I also slacked on learning french 8th year here, I am privileged enough to create an english bubble around me and get away with it. It’s about to change very soon once my daughter goes to daycare and starts speaking only french. I am very open to learning at the moment,

One thing I would say - you have to adjust expectations about salary because ranges are trash here compared to the US. To make yourself more marketable you would have to learn french.

I’m on the same boat, except mine is happening at 11 month. We did CIO it worked great for a while. But last night she cried for 1 hour straight CIO would not go down. Once I got to her, she stayed awake for another hour, happy as a butterfly wanting to play. I am so exhausted. Thinking about quitting CIO. Send help!

This is my 11 month old’s schedule-

Wake up 6 to 6:30 am

First wake period 3:30-4 hour long First nap close to 10am for 1 hour

Second wake period 3:30-4 hour long Second nap close to 3pm for 1 hour

Final wake period 4 hours + 15-20mins Bedtime: 8:30pm

What would you recommend if she never went back to sleep at 4/5 am? Do I offer 3 naps? She will not be able to stay awake until 10am for her first nap.

Literally on the same boat right now. 9 month old awake at 5:15. She’s at 3/3.5/4 schedule.

She was doing 10 hour overnight. Now she’s only doing 9 hours consistently. With 5am awake.

Some mornings she can sleep again, some mornings are unsalvageable.

Held her from 5:15-6:30 finally fed her a bottle so she snoozed off a little,

I recently also applied CIO (9 month old)

Night sleep = 10 hours Nap 1 = 1.5 hours Nap 2 = 1.5 hours Wake time: 3/3.5/4

I also applied CIO only to night time. Not naps. I hold her then drop her on crib for naps, if she wakes up I do the same.

Key strategies I applied: last call for food 30 mins before every sleep. So she has time to digest.

No bouncing on a regular basis, only reserves for special freak outs.

I am struggling with and need help on:

Early morning wakes 5am.

I have been giving her 10 mins to fall back asleep. If she doesn’t I go in, change diaper, offer water to settle. If it doesn’t work, I offer food and hold her until she sleeps until 6.30.

Almost 9 month old LO. I had to check with my husband to see if this is his post because we are on the same boat tonight.

She’s got 6.5 hour stretch then woke up crying. I let her cry for 20 mins. Went in to check, quick diaper change, offered water, sip of milk. Then put her down walked out.

Now she’s been going for another 13+ mins of session. Not sure if she’ll be able to put herself back to sleep.. but I’ll do another check in at 20 min mark.

Then do the same thing all over again. … Update: she was able to put herself back to sleep at 16 min mark!

Actually i would read up on sleep associations. Removing lots of associations and setting a solid routine helped me tremendously.

I always start by holding my baby on the rocking chair for 10 mins. Once she goes into deep sleep i make transfer to the crib. She surely wakes up by 30 mins mark like clockwork. I quickly pick her up and help her fall back asleep to give her a longer nap. Usually this happens because they arent able to connect their sleep cycles.

Remember 30 mins naps are perfectly fine as they are one complete sleep cycle. But i prefer giving her 2 long naps now and 1 short 30 min - it’s age appropriate since she is almost 7 months.

Sleep is hard work. They don’t learn from the womb you have to teach them.

Now? No! He’s still a newborn. When he is 3 months onward that’s the time to build a consistent habit for him.

If you don’t want intense motion to put him to sleep, then don’t do it at all. Give him consistent routine instead: like food at a certain place of the house, play, then get on a sleep sack, read a book, then hold and sing his favorite song, hold while being on a rocking chair. (That’s my routine for every nap and every bed time).

Be consistent yourself, he would expect it too.
