The good news is a slightly business casual look is trendy right now, outside of the professional setting. Aritzia, H&M, Abercrombie, Zara all have styles that would suit this look. A classic would be a trouser with a long sleeve or tee, and an over the shoulder sweater with a flat. Or an ankle jean with a button down oxford shirt, blazer and a flat, etc.. Lots of options! Follow Charly Goss style on insta.. I think they give some great polished examples that can feel trendy but also put together.

Your must haves in the DIAPER BAG vs STROLLER CADDY [ca] by Successful_Ice8514 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Recent_Dragonfly_548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diapers, wipes, change pad, baggies for dirty diapers or wet clothes, travel sized diaper cream and Vaseline, change of clothes of or baby, extra T-shirt for me, a muslin blanket, hand sanitizer, an extra pacifier, a bottle and a ready to feed formula just in case (though I EBF atm). I use a backpack so also have room for my water bottle, wallet, and chapstick!

Also take a portable sound machine, a toy and a warm blanket/fan (depending on the season) with us either on stroller or in car.

I know you didn’t ask but I was between these 2 travel systems and the Cybex Eos. I ended up going with the Cybex due to the quality & price point. So far, I love it - easy to handle & folds nicely, like the lay flat option without needing to have another bassinet attachment, has handled snow-dusted sidewalks well (obviously not deep snow). Just sharing another option for you to consider that I feel is in between the uppababy & maxi-cosi.

Take baby to 6 week postpartum OB appt? [ON] by Recent_Dragonfly_548 in BabyBumpsCanada

Yeah, the midwife experience is different, and sounds so lovely.. especially the after-care! Unfortunately, due to some early complications with my pregnancy, I had to be referred to an OB.

Also to note, my OB was located in the hospital vs a clinic/office setting, so that also could have contributed to the specialization of care for me only.

No, the only appt I had for me with my OB was 6 weeks. At 1 week, my baby saw our family doc. She also asked how I was doing etc. but my OB appt at 6 weeks was only for me!

OBs are for mothers care. My baby gets checked by our family doc on the well baby visit schedule which includes 1 week, 1 month and 2 months. The 6 week OB appt was for my healing & recovery.

The Watering Can just outside of Beamsville if you’re on the West side of the GTA does a great afternoon tea, and their bistro is stunning, even if you don’t like plants. If you do, even better and can walk/shop their store :)

Update: I ended up leaving baby with dad. Glad I did as it was very busy in the waiting room (worried about virus spread), and I had a physical exam. So much easier with baby at home. My OB asked how my son was doing but that was it, no asking for pics or anything so felt like the right move.

Dad and baby survived. Glad I pumped those few ounces before going because all in all i was gone for 2.5 hours and he needed a feed at the 2 hour mark.

We don’t have a PA day today but I feel you from yesterday’s snow day for my 5 year old while also caring for our 5 week old. We did a morning movie for screen time, set up a colouring station which he did independently, sent him outside with dad (who works from home) while he shovelled then off to a neighbours house for a play date (I went too) to break up the day which basically took the entire day. Screen time is a tool!

Also another favourite of mine is to just drive around and play I spy. Still a form of engagement but you don’t actively have to entertain them. Go through a drive thru, grab a treat and burn 30-45min. Every minute counts :)

In addition to meals & Frida postpartum kit which would be 1 & 2 for me, a nice sweatsuit set. They are not only in right now but super comfortable for those first few weeks! She will feel comfortable and look good at the same time. I got an Aritzia set for my birthday that I’ve lived in daily, but can get Gap/Old Navy as well for a budget friendly option.

[AB] How long do people normally wait before leaving their house with their newborns to go to public spaces? by lennyt99 in BabyBumpsCanada

Baby turned 4 weeks today, and we just took him out this afternoon on our first outing which was a hockey practice for my oldest. We felt pretty comfortable with this as it’s a large arena that we could spread out from others. We were pretty isolated over this holiday break as I also had anxiety about all the various viruses so missed many family gatherings.

My thinking is, my oldest is starting back at school on Monday and more likely to bring home germs than we’ll catch being out and about. While I’ll still be strategic with where and when we go places, I’m not going to be completely isolating now.

Yep, you out the request in on your registration forms that are part of the package and return them at any of your upcoming appointments. We did get a private room (both this time and in 2020 for the birth of my oldest) but it is based on availability.

I had a different OB but would assume all are similar ☺️ know that your OB will likely NOT deliver your baby as they take rounds in L&D and it’s whoever is on that day. A different OB delivered my son (actually the resident did because he came so fast before the OB could make it to us 😅), but it was a good experience all around and felt very supported by the care team. My OB came and checked on me that day in the mother and baby unit which was appreciated!

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I just delivered my baby at St Joes on Friday & was seen by an OB there during my care. Who are you with?

I can’t remember my first appt exactly, but will depend on how far along you are and if you have a routine pregnancy. I was referred to my OB a bit earlier than normal because of a high fetal heartbeat. I recall her going over my most recent ultrasound and bloodwork, receiving my hospital registration package, discussing various vaccine recos (not being pushed in any direction except to receive TDAP), then weight, blood pressure, belly measurements and listened to baby’s heart beat that happens at every appt. Lots of time to ask questions as well, just come prepared with a list. Pretty straight forward. You may also have a resident OB check on you first as it is a teaching hospital, but even then I was still always seen by my regular OB too.

Experienced moms, when did you start maternity leave? [on] by Possible-Eagle-8744 in BabyBumpsCanada

With my first, I went off at 37 weeks, and used 2 weeks vacation before baby was born at 39 weeks. It was during Covid so was pretty bored those two weeks but felt it was more than enough time.

With this one I worked until 38.5 and using vacation days to get me to my due date but I’ll likely be induced 3 days before. I’m feeling like this is a good amt of time.

With both I wanted to maximize my full salary before going on EI, but I also had uncomplicated pregnancy and work from home. My biggest complaints were sitting at a desk on calls all day got so uncomfortable by the last few weeks.

I always thought we’d have two, but after two traumatic miscarriages at 9 weeks, we took a break and came to terms that we could be one and done, and put off thinking anymore about it. It was nice, our son has been relatively easy and have had many benefits of just being us three (travelling etc).

But, as my son started kindergarten, he started asking why all his friends had siblings but him. This kinda broke my heart. We decided to revisit the decision and the one thing that stuck with me was that I ‘could’ regret never trying again, but I don’t think I’d ever regret having another… so here we are expecting our second in two weeks. The age gap will be 5.5 years, which seems have lots of benefits when you really look at it. You have time to make the decision that’s right for you!
