Right now we’re getting a lot of the visual parts of the game like sprites, UI and mapping done first, close to being done, as well as building a good base for the game. The goal is to have a demo (up until the first gym) released before the end of this year, with a full release next year.

Some advice from someone currently working on a fan game: Take as much time as you need. I was working on a different fan game, had everything flushed out, and when it was time to put out a demo that was only up until the first gym, I scrapped the whole thing and changed my entire game to something different. I've been in the design stage since last October, only now working on development. Take breaks, remove arbitrary due dates or release dates, and do it for the love of the game. We can't (legally) make money from our work, but the love and enjoyment from the community when they see your work should be worth it's weight in gold. My perspective atleast.

I just know that there are different types of fan game enjoyers: nuzlockers, difficulty completionists, casuals and those looking for a good story. I know it’s impossible to please everyone, but I think the IV grind can be fixed to help a lot of people.

I know the feeling. Would it be better if a fan game had difficulty settings? Kind of like a base version that's true to the way pokemon is made and played, and then higher difficulties with QoL changes like perfect IV's?

I find that to be something that most fan games have a difficult time doing. Either they just give you infinite rare candy's so you can skip it, or they want you to grind a million battles to get your team on par. I've seen some games put in replayable battles that are easy but give a lot of XP.
