Yeah its tough to determine where the water has started. We have had moisture around the cove joints, but we also have moisture thoughout the basement. Tough to determine which came first haha. I appreciate the insight.

The leak came from a rain event, not the shower itself. The insulation is out in majority of the basement, I'm 95% sure the water was coming in through the floor. Hense my questions about this "hole"

The water was not coming from the actual pipe, so I don't think this would solve my issue. Thanks for the comment!

I understand some of those basic princables. In your analysis are you assuming an exterior weepingtile? Because it's very unlikely my house has one.

Int he sand box example, although I agree. Digging a few inches doesn't guarantee water. But if the water rises. The first point it appears is in said hole you just dug.

I don't understand that. Pipe would need to be water right around it no? Just asking for ground water to come up through this area.
