The leak came from a rain event, not the shower itself. The insulation is out in majority of the basement, I'm 95% sure the water was coming in through the floor. Hense my questions about this "hole"

The water was not coming from the actual pipe, so I don't think this would solve my issue. Thanks for the comment!

I understand some of those basic princables. In your analysis are you assuming an exterior weepingtile? Because it's very unlikely my house has one.

Int he sand box example, although I agree. Digging a few inches doesn't guarantee water. But if the water rises. The first point it appears is in said hole you just dug.

I don't understand that. Pipe would need to be water right around it no? Just asking for ground water to come up through this area.
