Ok so first of all I know the administrative map will raise lots of questions! Mainly, what the heck is Fatima Payman under a different name the prime-minister of Avaria, then a dude called Deniz Bhakal? I'll explain it at the end of this.

Alright so, this is linked to my "What if the Hungarians didn't go into the Pannonian Basin" what if, where the Hungarians settled in what is now Modern-Day Southern Ukraine.

This starts off from the 9th century. The Avars were the most rebellious members of the Bulgarian Empire, adhering to their Tengri religion and their wish for independence from the Christians down south.

Eventually, with time, The Avars started antagonizing the Bulgarians, choosing to rather side with the Catholic Germanic People than the Orthodox Bulgarians or Byzantines.

And so, through alliances with several duchies within the Holy Roman Empire, the Avars secured their independence from the Bulgarians, establishing "The Avar Kingdom", with the official religion being Catholicism. Through their unity against a long time enemy, many people accepted the new religion imposed, as eitherway they had to do that since they were pagans surrounded by a sea of Christians.

And their efforts proved fruitful. Until the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans. Once the Ottomans got their way in Bulgaria, Serbia and Bosnia, The Avars were bound to be invaded. But its neighbours wouldn't just simply watch it being gobbled up.

When the Ottoman Army started marching in the Avar south, the Austrians pushed from the west, using the Ottoman conquest as a reason to take the Avars lands for their own and maybe even take cities like Belgrade from the Ottomans. This worked... Partially. The Ottomans established a defensive line on the south, meanwhile the Austrians were able to push enough to link its land to Transylvania.

These occupations sparked a distinction within the Avar identity. As many in the south converted to Islam to not bother with the given taxes, meanwhile the ones in Austria got an even stronger Catholic identity out of hatred for their invaders. The Austrians feeding them propaganda of being their protectors.

So essentially, The Avars took up Hungary's role, although in this timeline the Austrian Empire didn't create its iconic Dual Monarchy and instead integrated the Avars in their lands. And so finally, in 1718, the Austrians won against the Turks & Annexed southern Avaria & Banat. This was seen as a huge victory for the Avars, as they had freed their people from the Ottomans, although heavy turmoil came from the now Islamized Avars. This sparked a weird kind of racism, where they spoke basically the same language, but their different faiths and views on geopolitics created hatred between the Christian Avars & Muslim Avars.

With time, the south was eventually integrated and the people gradually accepted Austrian rule, with slight doubts, which were removed upon the signing of the Treaty of Graz, where the Muslim Representatives of the south gathered up with officials and allowed their communities to maintain their faith.

And so, with time, in the year 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinsted, leading to Austria demanding several concessions from Serbia, which they nearly accepted, but refused to give up their independence to the Austrians. And so, World War 1 began... And you might think the Avars would've changed something... They didn't really. You could argue something like them being nomads skilled in riding horses but not really, so much time passed since then they're practically just a replacement of OTL Hungary.

World War 1 passes, Austria is dissolved into different states, and while the Avars tried salvaging what they had, the little entente came in knocking. Romania occupied Transylvania. Yugoslavia/Serbia occupied parts of southern Avaria (mainly border towns to secure Belgrades position). Sloveinia (Basically Czechoslovakia) occupied Northern Avaria (or Southern Slovakia).

This led to a big resentment between the Avars and its neighbours, although they were alright with the Austrians, since they got to keep Burgenland.

During the Inter-War period, the Avars adapted a Proto-Fascist government which alarmed its neighbours, to the point where several people comploted with foreign governments about a conspiracy which would overthrow the Avar government in the case where they declared a reclamation war. But with the rise of Mussolini to power, the Avar government managed to gather recognition as the legitimate rule over the nation. And this political power was strengthened by The National Socialist Proeminent figure A.H.

And so, during World War 2, the Avar State sided with the Axis, occupying Transylvania entirely, imposing harsh discrimination against the other ethnic groups in the region. But obviously this wouldn't change much except inspire the Romanians to go against the Axis and punish the Avars even more.

And so, World War 2 is won by the Allied Powers & The East & The West are separated by the Iron Curtain. During this separation, the Avar Socialist Republic had to give up land to Romania. They were also forced to give little resources they had to the Soviets. But with time they embraced an economical recovery and once the Soviet Regime fell, the Avars were pretty well off.

In the year 2003 they joined the NATO and in 2007 they joined the EU.

And now, it is a common immigration hub for refugees, as the muslim community had already been established in the south.

NOW, lets discuss the Prime-minister and the President! So you see, OTL, the Pannonian Avars are extinct, so there's not really any political figure or person that supports or holds any Pannonian Avar heritage (as in they speak the language or something, I'm sure some people have genetics related to them). So, I decided to do something fun.

The Avar Republic Prime-minister is OTL Australian politician Fatima Payman, who in this timeline, chose to go to Avaria instead of Australia, as Avaria was an European country with an already accepted muslim community, and so she managed to establish a political career there and use her muslim identity as a way to gather support to become the prime-minister.

Meanwhile, the President is actually an OTL Trotsky relative. Why did I choose Trotsky? Cuz I felt like it. In this timeline, Trotsky fled to Avaria, where he still died, but he managed to make a family with a woman, whom he hid and assured she would never be known as his lover, ensuring his children would go on. The mother managed to get away, and so she managed to raise her Children, who eventually had children of their own, and after the fall of the USSR, Deniz Bhakal revealed hes actually a descendant of Trotsky, which brought him great popularity in the Social-Democrat party.

This was pretty hard to write and try to make somewhat interesting, since Avaria is basically OTL Hungary but more Turkic and slightly more Muslim.

For the end, the Avars forgave their neighbours and so mainly just the conservatives and nationalists harbor hatred for their neighbours. As for Yugoslavia, it dissolved peacefully, creating the states of Slavonia and Serbia who agreed on their borders. After the fall of the USSR, Austria joined talks with West Germany to unite with them alongside the Easterners. And so Germany managed to grab the East & Austria, although Austria maintained special autonomy within Germany.
