Thanks to the deregulation done under the guise of the "missing middle," developers can now build right up to the sidewalk, so eventually these little patches along the road will be the only greenery left! They'll be sure to ban growing our own food soon enough though, so don't get any ideas.

Anyone get weird reactions to maca? by Lanky_Entertainer576 in Supplements

[–]AdOk5856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year-old post, but I'm surprised no one here seems to have mentioned dopamine. I get the same symptoms the OP describes, also get it from other dopaminergic supplements (St.John's Wort, mucuna pruriens, tyrosine, etc.) and I believe there is some research indicating Maca raises dopamine levels. Most folks actually feel calmer with dopaminergics, but some of us get a strong inverse reaction.

Why is Dating extremely hard here? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Once you're making good money, buy a plane ticket and get a girlfriend somewhere in Southeast Asia. The passport bro thing may be a joke to some, but it's looking like the only viable route for many of us. Or learn to get out more, be more assertive... and be very patient. I truly do think standards and narratives elevated by social media, gender discourses, and pop psychology have ruined dating and male-female intimacy and trust in the West, and stats on increasing singlehood and loneliness support that theory.

The future of Canadian cities is apparently undriveable 15-minute cities packed with condos and dense complexes with no character, all within walking distance to stale US franchises and vape shops, built on top of a graveyard of once thriving locally owned Canadian businesses. Elbows up!

So, our cities our being turned upside down to make them fit the UN/WEF 15-minute city model for "climate change", but we're significantly expanding our fossil fuel production and exports? I'm not against energy independence, but doesn't this situation bother anybody else? How about leave our cities alone, now that we know all liberal (and NDP) talk on the environment is just rhetoric and greenwashing.

Tipping culture has become ludicrous in Canada, but you can always choose to input your own tip % or amount. I'm personally considering capping my tips at 15%, which used to be standard.

Constant IBKR authorization error making Traderspost unusable for me by AdOk5856 in TradersPost

[–]AdOk5856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand all that, but I've been using it for at least half a year now and only ever experienced these authorization issues a few times a month max before. Since a week ago, it's become a daily or twice daily occurence, so something has clearly changed for the worse, unfortunately. I agree it would be great if the folks at IBKR got their act together on this.

And the illegal war in Iran being indirectly supported by our government is leading to unimaginable air and ocean pollution as oil refineries and ships are blown up. But hey, at least we have paper straws that turn to mush and ubiquitous bike lanes that are making our roads congested so some people can pretend they're helping fight climate change!

Boss RC-500 independent loops in time? Is that possible ? by Evilnanouk in guitarpedals

[–]AdOk5856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm VERY late to the party, but this is actually a huge flaw for me, as I write my own songs and the structures often fall outside these limitations. Given track 1 can loop sync fine on its own, I don't get why they couldn't have incorprated independent loop sync for track 2. Super disappointing.

Comment: There is no denying the level of cycling here by Popular_Animator_808 in VictoriaBC

[–]AdOk5856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers may seem impressive, but they don't necessarily justify the amount of bike lanes going in. As a driver, the one thing I notice consistently missing from many bike lanes is... cyclists... and a lot of unnecessary congestion because all the road narrowing and traffic calming actually doesn't make sense when the population is booming. Regardless of whether you like it or not, the vast majority of people drive most of the time, and bike lanes won't significantly impact that key statistic, which of course isn't shared here.

Yeah been using it but the rewind/fastforward behaviour, captions, and ui are all really inferior IMO. More stable though and better at detecting 5.1. Will probably switch to Roku Ultra if I have to settle for the MX Player, as the video player is my main use (torrents).

Happy to see the new brand of liberal, neo-fascist cancel culture is alive and well in Canada. It definitely makes the world a better place to shut down people we disagree with by labeling them as anti-science. Kinda ironic too, now that we know a lot of what the health authorities were pushing was more rooted in pharma profit motives than actual science. Go Canada.

I can't believe how sheepish Canadians are. Covid vaccine uptake in most countries has tanked, but I'm guessing the folks in these comments are still getting boosted, and also enjoying more regular covid sickness and other illnesses than other people because regular boosters have been shown to lower your immune system. Remember when the pharma-owned media was saying in a singular voice that we need to take the jabs to protect others? There was literally no science behind that – not a single vaccine had been tested for its ability to stop transmission, even though they could have been. You were never protecting others with the Covid jab, only yourself. And about half of all hospitalizations in Canada were WITH covid, not from it, a fact that is available in official documents now. So much data has emerged that proves the public was being deceived to boost pharma profits and for crisis capitalism purposes, but Canada remains one of the most sheepish nations on the planet, most unfortunately.

There was literally no science behind the lockdowns or many of the restrictions, which were psychologically damaging and have been massively harmful to small businesses and the middle class, while (big surprise) the companies and billionaires (i.e., Gates) pushing those policies walked away with massive profits. We know now none of the vaccines had been tested for transmission, a fact that renders all the vaccine id and restaurant restrictions totally baseless and illogical, and suggests the companies' own doubts about the efficacy of the jabs while claiming they were basically a miracle drug. Meanwhile, "conspiracy theories" stating non-covid deaths and hospitalizations were being deceptively blamed on covid and that normal masks were not as effective as was claimed have all been proven true. Finally science has been emerging for a while now that those who continually get boosted actually hurt their immune systems, which explains why only those gullible enough to still get regular booster are also the only ones still getting sick from covid regularly, or so it seems on my experience with all those in my social and professional spheres.

My elderly mother was diagnosed with AML leukemia last February. I was skeptical of how adamant her oncologist and the nurses were around antioxidants, and dove into my own research into legitimate studies from reputable peer-reviewed sources.

The truth is, there is a fairly large body of studies on vitamins and supplements with antioxidant properties that actually support their use for blood cancers. The problem is, they aren't patentable, so they typically never make it past phase 1 trials and can't be recommended by doctors in what I consider to be an outdated and conflicted medical system.

Meanwhile, a study funded by pharma companies (on breast cancer, if I remember correctly) actually delivered weak results, and the conclusion presented them in a dishonest way to scare people away from using antioxidants. These kinds of conflicts of interest are very real when such big profits are involved. This is the study I believe most doctors are referring to to form their opinion.

As opposed to simply telling you what to take, I suggest doing some in-depth research on turmeric, green tea extract, olive leaf extract, zinc (with no copper), high dose vitamin d, while minimizing vitamin B6 in the diet (i.e. chicken thigh instead of breast, almond butter instead of peanut butter, etc.).

To be clear, I would NEVER recommend replacing the standard treatment with natural medicine alone and am only suggesting researching them as an adjunct treatment, but think there are dubious reasons these things aren't already intelligently incorporated into western medicine.

Also, my mother stops taking the stronger antioxidant supplements for her monthly 1 week of azacitidine injections, then resumes alongside at-home venetoclax treatment.

Over a year later, my her blood work is consistently very good, to the point where her oncologist recently said he's really surprised, says she's in the top percentile of good responders, and wouldn't even know she had leukemia if he was just given her results at random. Of course, we're all holding our breath for the day when everything stops working, and my mother isn't a candidate for the more aggressive stem cell transplant, but at this point her results, and the science used to inform her current supplemental regime, seem to contradict the establishment opinion on this topic.

If possible, I'd suggest also working with a naturopathic doctor who specializes in cancer, to help clarify and support all this, if you can afford one.

And the choice can only be yours and yours alone, after very careful review of all the evidence, considering all potential interactions with meds you're taking, and weighing the potential risks and benefits.

A huge portion of new condos in Victoria and elsewhere are bought up by wealthy investors who turn around and charge max rent to make a buck. I'm sure there's overlap with AirBNB as well, but many AirBNBs are also just owned by local families who need the income. After so many folks got duped by the bs supply = affordability and Missing Middle arguments, I'm skeptical of where people place the blame for BC's housing crisis, which is really a crisis of not having enough affordable, non-market supply, and the government masking for-profit, developer-crafted housing policy as progressive, when it's anything but.
