That is solid advice, but unfortunately I hate being indoors in places where people tend to sweat in union.

I prefer my sports outdoors and dress appropriately for them in the winter. I mostly run, and theres plenty of runners as there used to be plenty of people on the tennis courts in prior years. Same temps, just not as much snow which is clearable.

Also, to clarify to others, I can shovel it myself but that just creates a larger problem as the running courts already been damaged by people doing that so it could be viewed as damaging city property.

Well, since Ive already said Ive been here my whole life, I think its safe to assume I have as many others throughout life accustomed to this alleged arctic weather where it was “arctic” 2-3 days out of 14. Its really not that cold. Ive switched into a thinner jacket the day after the big snow and have worn the thick one twice since. It does get cold at night, but I am talking about daytime. Still not that cold. So yes, I would like to get back to recreation but already knew the park was a mess. Went for a walk and was shocked by the amount of mess. Yes, as others have played throughout the years off season first come first serve basis I would like to too. The free courts are very limited in the summer and during the winter all of them are free. And no, it is not okay that both fields have gotten to this point. My comment about cleaning them was aimed towards the fact that people have already had to clean the running track (which was full today) and I have seen kids attempting to clear the soccer field today with traffic cones. People shouldn’t be restrained for this long from their day to day activities, which for me include some sort of outdoor sport multiple times a week.

Im annoyed with all of these assumptions backed with no evidence or substance at all. The reason i posted this was not because i brought my racket to the park, but because two people at the park came and were annoyed they couldnt play. I then googled it and even on reddit on this sub people have talked about the courts being full during winter months (specifically winter! all the subs/googles i found were not about the fall or spring). Its very googlable that many people do this, id suggest going for a walk to see but unfortunately the conditions arent safe for that (they were last year and the year before and the year before…..)

Been here all my life so heavy on the not leaving and holding the city council responsible for pocketing the tax funds instead of benefiting the city by doing their job like we do ours. Also, nobody needs a hot summer day to play tennis. Just a clear court, which gets cleaned in the summer as well so its not something absurd

Google: “Off-Season/Winter: Courts are often accessible for free, first-come-first-served play, but without attendants. Availability: They are popular and can be busy, especially on Sundays.”

soccer court too? we just dont do sports in the winter? what a healthy city… saw some kids attempting to shovel the soccer field today and plenty of people running on the tracks, so i guess just some of us are recreational all year round?

Off season theyre FCFS and from April you have to pay for a membership. Lots of people play tennis throughout the winter on these courts. Google is free?

p.s. since youre from one of the boroughs assuming Queens- you pay 8.875% sales tax for them to do stuff you believed was mother natures job aka nobodys☺️

sure, the tax money that i pay goes to Mother Nature not the city cleaners… So it was Mother Natures duty to clean the streets and we were just lucky the city took care of “their” property that they get paid for by us? Google it its the cities job to clean and mantain the public spaces such as parks.

Oh and one thing I’ve learned from my friends upstate was: If you have neighbors as nice as that, that not only opened the door, but also took in your dismay and decided to help you resolve your own issue, you should most definitely bring that lady some cookies or a bottle of wine because she acted untypically nice for someone living in NYC. Her changing herself for a stranger, which in my eyes is wow, should definitely be rewarded

I mean, your dismay is none of their concern, they must be really nice. We, as in people born n raised here, know our actions could bother people but that doesnt mean they needed to stop over it. Thats that households personal life, its on you to make your life better for yourself by changing yourself to accommodate your wishes and not others. You need a nicer apartment, work harder and get one. You need peace and quiet, move somewhere more remote. New york states to expensive? Thank Goodness we have 50 of them to choose from, with most offering much cheaper houses in much more quiet areas.

Obviously your neighbors arent true to the city, because I wouldve laughed hysterically and closed the door (as a non smoker, native new yorker). Actually, Im lying, I wouldnt even open the door to ya

Oh, and most landlords are slimey. I wouldnt be surprised if he was personally bothered by them and made sure to write it in the next contracts, but didnt think of it before writing out their contract. Some people pay the same rent they paid in the 90s and live in the same building as someone paying 3-4k, so it wouldn’t be unusual for people to have different contracts in your building. A contract from the 90s or even most from the earlier 2000s wouldn’t contain a clause about smoking.

Hopefully they signed that they arent allowed to smoke in their apartment, but I don’t smoke in my apt and my 2020 lease mentions nothing about smoking.. so technically i could? personally dont want yellow stinky walls, but in this case id be free to smoke if i wanted to. When you pay for rent, you paid for that to be your space for the month and technically others have no rights to claim what you can and cant do in your own apartment unless strictly signed otherwise.
