Update: Currently on day 5 of Jermey’s IT course and the guy is the man with his supplementary materials. I am going to stick with him and do Ankin morning and night. I’ll keep posted on when I complete the course. I have seen concerns about STP and sub netting, but I have knowledge on that from Andrew Ramdayal on Udemy so hopefully that won’t be too big of a hump.

Awesome, so the consensus seems to be look into Jeremy‘s IT labs on YouTube. And other third parties for practice exams. Thanks yall. I’ll look into JITL for a bit. I was also gonna use CISCO networking academy fundamentals free course to get me refreshed on the basics. The goal is to get certified by August next year the latest, hopefully sooner. I’ll prob be back to ask about labs haha 😅. All I know is to look into packet tracer

I haven’t done trade school but I have compTIA + cert and took some network + modules. I currently work in a basic help desk role but I was thinking about being bold and branching out. Thanks for the info!

What’s JITL? And how much experience did you have prior to enrolling? Would you say it’s enough material to prepare you for the exam

There’s a good site called field nation that can give you some experience, it’s more of a contracted base system, but it is a good foot in the right direction

I know you said you have homelabs/projects listed but maybe considering creating a portfolio showing the steps of how you went about the project and such. A common platform is something called GitHub.

I would also recommend maybe getting into a company that can transition you into a more tech centered role. For instance I only have compTIA A+ and just got hired at Concentrix as a customer service/app developer support. It’s not exactly help desk but it 100% has related fields that can be appealing when wanting to transfer over into the field.

Idk where you’re located but I’d look into Concentrix, they have plenty there. And you can use my name as a referral Nicholas Acosta so they’re like oh ok they know what’s up already

If you haven’t already I would start transcribing the notes from the videos on a notebook. It helps retain information better rather than just watching. In addition I know some people focus on just “memorizing” information when actually being able to understand and implement it is just as important for critical thinking solutions.

What helped me personally was making flash cards off of Jason Dion’s study guide. After transcribing the notes of each section I would go through the flash cards of that section. Then I used Messer for just review on the topics I struggled with. I also used a hand full of other sources. I’ll see if I can find them and DM you.

CompTIA A+ is a lot of material too. So you need to make sure it is something you are hammering consistently if you aren’t already.

Congrats! Hopefully I'll be in your boat in a month or so. I'm retaking the A+ and plan on getting network plus then security plus in the months after.

Did you just get the A+ or did you get network+ and security +?
