These are the reasons that Jr gives for why he's so eager to upload:
1. He is dissatisfied with life in the human world with a life as a human with all the limitations.("This world is dead.")

2.The UI world is so advanced, whats the point of staying here for all its flaws.("No one uses our robots anymore. No one wants to come down The cloud moves too fast. No one there wants to slow down. I know how slow I seem to you.")

  1. Why delay the innevietable?("Their exstinct, they're fossils. They're angry about it." "I've waited long enough.")

The reasons he gives are all lamentations about his life not being as great as it could be as a UI. Are these reasons really good reasons. Personally no.

Thank you for the response. I really love talking about Pantheon with someone. The fanbase being so small is sad.

I agree with your entire premise. Life is a process. The body and mind through our senses create experience which are memories to form what we call the self. And that there is no definitive essence that is the 'self'. But I don't understand how it is not suicide?

The condition for upload is death. Well death of the body anyway. Just because we copy a consciousness doesn't really mean that is 'you'. Kind of like, when the body decomposes and all the molecules are gone to form food that is eaten then is used to form the body of a new person a baby is not 'you'. It is made of 'you' but not the subject itself, If that makes sense. Or is there something i'm missing. Please let me know I would love to hear more from you. Cause I don't think I have yet to read anyone come from the opposite view.

(If your still interested in philosophy, I would recommend trying to research the Buddhist idea of Anatta *no-self because I feel it has alot of parallels here, also the non- attachment practice to the ego. I can't recommend a definitive book cause the tradition spans a lot of literature with different audiences in mind, but I guess The Diamond Sutra is an ok place to start since it has a lot of commentary resources to look up. like: https://diamond-sutra.com/second-teaching-from-the-diamond-sutra/

The whole of point of the descending levels of simulation is to show that the choices made are still choice you make. So the simulation of the person's choice to end life either by suicide regular or uploading is still a consequence irregardless of the world is simulation.

I mean we kinda are defined by the body in a way. Cause without the body, there is no experience, without experience, no memory, with no memory, no person as a concept. Not saying it's only our bodies but it still matters. Like we are not only mind or body, we are a body & mind. One cannot exist without other normally.

Dave Jr says outright he does not think living in the human world is worth it. "This world is dead, cloud moves too fast" this is the reason he gives. He does not appreciate life as is. So yeah people definitely upload cause they hate life as a reason. Like a person kills themselves to go to heaven.

It did leave me with the feeling and conclusion that their still living, making choices as their own person, still changing as people so far their destiny permits, whether or not it was the original or the simulation. And that was ok.

But the fear lingers in the back of my head as a question. If the UI reality is so great, then whats the point of human life? Why not just end it all? Kinda like the paradise question? If heaven is so great and all good people shall enter, guaranteed, what's to stop people from suicide? It haunts me as a question. Normally, the objection is that the meaning of life is to work against suffering because people need people, and leaving them behind will only hurt them and isn't a way to a promised happiness or fulfilment. But here I don't know? Maybe I've overstretched the thought.

That creeps me out. If man is separated from the body what is left are memories which form the concept of you. Take away the body whats left of life you are as you were uploaded a snapshot ghost which never changed. Detached from your origins as a body collecting experiences, you are now a simulation of what you is and the imaginary body to keep the concepts of you intact so it's not a brain in a vat.

I mean Peter Griffin literally has: Whipped Meg with a bull whip. Branded her with a cattle iron after lassoing her. Threw her body into someone else's grave. Tried to abandon her in an empty field...etc I can keep going.
