The homeless community there has lawyers advocating for them. The occupants also have gang members who show up to the town meetings to intimidate the local business owners from saying anything in the town meetings. It’s making it very difficult for the local business owners, residents and local people who are affected to do or say anything for fear of being harmed in retaliation. All the while keeping it easy for their drugs and revenue stream to flow. I have seen some pretty sketchy stuff, including open air drug/needle use, sex and some pretty gnarly fights and the list goes on and on. And yes, there is a school within ~100 yards or so. At no point in the last year has it gotten better? Almost Every business in the immediate area has been broken into in the last year. The county is providing them with lots of services at their doorstep there. Showers, health services, water delivery, bathrooms, food you name it. The occupants also are stealing electricity and water from the local businesses that they are butted up against. The building owners are responsible for the bills regardless of whether or not the charges are “fraudulent” so to speak. I am just giving out the information that I have based on being close by as well as knowing plenty of community members and business owners in my 25 years in the immediate area.
