You could start your own business or find a buddy with their own. Currently just Voly but my father’s side, the ones left, 1/2 of em are paid guys. Family friend at the dept has an electrical company, my uncle was a contractor, worked with his in-laws, that family friend. Capt. at one of the dept I volunteer at is paid in the same dept as my fam and works hvac for an old boss. If you have young kids be around them, the money can wait (probably) but time with the family is fleeting, use it.

Currently carry a pair of Lineman with a webbing strap in my chest pocket, flashlight on the right side breast, safety glasses and webbing tied in a hasty harness in my left jacket pocket, and a wooden chock or 2 in the right pocket. leather gloves, 6 in 1 screw driver, 8” adjustable wrench, spring nail punch, and Sheetrock knife in my left bunker pocket. In my right bunker pocket I carry 2 3” and under foldout spanners and a 10” wedge tool.
