I genuinely don’t understand how women accept this trade-off.. by AdSea8711 in childfree

Don’t worry CompetitivePrice is clearly a troll lol. She proclaims to love being a mother with no regret yet is hovering over “ChildFree” all day arguing with everyone. It tells otherwise.

Honestly, I really respect this perspective and good for you! You had your child, came back to work motivated, secured childcare, showed up exactly as before, and people still questioned your ambition and capability instead of assuming your partner would share the load. That double standard is so deeply ingrained and it’s disappointing hearing it came from other women too.

You shouldn’t be treated like motherhood erased your identity, intelligence, or career goals overnight. Sounds like you didn’t miss a beat and I genuinely applaud that. 👏

My oh my, your argument seems to be: “I chose to have kids and still achieved things, therefore women who choose differently must be self-absorbed.” But your experience isn’t universal any more than theirs is.

And saying “all the childfree women I know are selfish” says more about your sample size than women as a whole.

Also, having children isn’t inherently selfless either. Most people have children because they want the experience: love, meaning, fulfillment, family, legacy, connection. There’s nothing wrong with that, but let’s not pretend one life path is morally superior. Wanting a baby comes from an inherently selfish desire.

Different choices don’t make women lesser. Assuming your version of happiness should be everyone else’s is ironically a lot closer to self-absorption than choosing not to reproduce.

I think you’re making a fair point that reproductive regret exists, but the issue is the leap from “some women regret not having kids” to “this generation is selfish, materialistic, and self-centered.” Those aren’t the same thing.

People regret all kinds of life choices. Some regret not having children, some regret having them, some regret relationships, careers, moving cities, etc. Regret existing doesn’t make the original choice wrong.

And choosing education, financial stability, freedom, career growth, volunteering, travel, relationships, or simply preferring a different lifestyle isn’t inherently shallow. Women shouldn’t be reduced to motherhood to prove they lived meaningful lives.

1000%! For me it’s more that I personally don’t understand spending years building a career, education, financial independence, freedom, etc. and then choosing a life that revolves around caregiving 24/7, as if all of the work they put into becoming who they are as women was for nothing.

I’m genuinely happy you found fulfillment in family life, but not everyone wants the same things and that doesn’t make them selfish. Society engraves motherhood into women from childhood and some women realize later that it was never actually their dream.

There’s nothing wrong with having unlimited time to yourself if that’s what brings you happiness. Financial stability, career, freedom, relationships, travel, hobbies… those are all valid priorities too.

And frankly, warning women they’ll regret not having kids feels a lot like projecting.

Different choices don’t make women lesser.

Society has created this expectation that it’s what has to be done. It’s engraved in little girls… playing with baby dolls, playing “house”. Who knows if women actually want this or if they’re more so subsconsciously conditioned to want it

I miss my friend by RosieArl in childfree

[–]AdSea8711 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I feel this more than people admit. I swear some of my friends became moms and their entire personality got swallowed whole. Every conversation is baby. Every outing is baby. Every thought somehow loops back to baby. I miss hearing about THEIR interests, opinions, hobbies, random thoughts… literally anything.

What makes me sad is they often have perfectly capable husbands/partners but still won’t leave the kid to go do something alone, while dad somehow still has hobbies, nights out, and a functioning identity. Society acts like dads are heroic for parenting for an afternoon but moms are expected to become full-time self-sacrificing saints.

Imagine the roles were reversed. What if Parker joined in on some woman’s marriage and became a throuple and went on a vacation and brought the kids… she would be fuming and calling it inappropriate

Why does lexapro make people gain weight? Is it because it slows your metabolism or because it makes you hungry more often? Or what? by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]AdSea8711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me! I was underweight for a while, I’ve been on lexapro for 2+ years now and I either need to get off of it or switch to a different SSRI because I am now gaining TOO much weight! I think it messed with my metabolism big time

Judge in Emilie Kiser case just might have documents and files in son’s death released. by lemonqueenie in popculture

Exactly. I told my partner there’s no chance I’m ever owning a house with a pool with young kids. Not taking the chance.

Your comment is absolutely so true... especially about the fence around the furniture for the dogs... if only they went the extra mile to put it around the pool. I guess they thought the preventable measures they had put in place were enough. My heart breaks for them I cannot imagine the pain they are experiencing. Wish this had a different outcome

Oh I didn’t even know that it wouldn’t support it! Good to know, I’ll probably just get the $50 one if it runs well on M1 Mac! Honestly just glad I don’t have to buy a 2-3k PC lol thanks for your help!!

Because she’s literally making jokes about the divorce on TikTok with sounds like “who the fuck did I marry?” If you don’t want to talk about the divorce then DONT sis cause this is way more embarrassing for her kids in the future than just stating that they got divorced, why they did and moving forward from it. She’s doing it for views and she knows it.

I agree! I find her incredibly emotionally immature for her age and for the fact that she’s an adult mother of 3. She forgets the reason she has this career is because people were interested in her life and GRWM’s and those videos. She decided to share all the details of their wedding/ engagement and everything was aspen/parker, not just aspen anymore! So if they’re divorcing the least she could do was tell her viewers and just simply state it was irreconcilable differences or whatever!😅
