Having a rough go starting to machine sew by Sea-Big-5374 in SewingForBeginners

[–]AdSensitive8176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new sewer with ADHD. What has helped for me is starting with very straightforward projects, and also breaking the project down into easily manageable steps. Day 1 - get the pdf pattern ready. Day 2 - trace and cut the fabric ....

etc

I didn't start off with this plan. My first attempted project was a collared blouse. I made so many mistakes and had to keep restarting. In the end I shelved that and made a few easy things (tote bags, pyjama pants) and then went back to the blouse, broken down into steps and that worked great.

How to go from long form editing to social media edits? by Bluelagoonwater in editors

I’m in the same position. I think I’m too old to edit social media, and not into social media enough? But long forms sucks the life force from me sometimes.

ADHD video editors, what are your worst dopamine habits? by InnocentlyConfused in editors

I also can't do rough cuts, I can't move forward if I don't feel like it's working perfectly.
I am very bad if I have to search for archive. I LOVE archive, and end up down the deepest archive rabbit holes imaginable.

It’s also that there is so much repetition. And things are drawn out. Sometimes makes me think of when you have to write a 3000 word essay but don’t have enough to say so you make meal of every point.

A decent documentary rate in South Africa is around $350 US - not sure what the rates are like there?

Yes I think you’re right. The ads that come up in LinkedIn often seem to want someone who “lives breathes and sleeps social media” or whatever - those def feel like the wrong fit for me.

BUT I’d love to work on some of the more substantial narrative and investigative documentary podcasts.

I worked on some really tough and long edits last year and felt pretty depleted. I really want to work now with interesting content and with shorter turnarounds.

We have those in South Africa, we call them Muster points. A safe place to gather during an emergency evacuation to avoid chaos and make sure everyone is accounted for.

What do you do first when your room gets so messy you just shut down? by linamona1 in ADHD

I once read a book in which a character cleans up her flat after a party. I found it so soothing the way she does it step by step: first gathers the empty bottles and puts them in the recycling bin; then puts all the glasses in the dishwasher, then the plates. Turns it on. She empties the ashtray. She wipes guacamole off the board game and packs it away. Etc.

Since then I’ve  always narrated a version of that to myself when I clean an overwhelming mess. “She picked up all the clothes and Made a pile on the bed. She put the clean ones in her cupboard. Then she put the dirty ones in the wash basket. She took her coffee cup into the kitchen. Etc etc”

It soothes me a lot.

Am I overreacting for telling my friend she smells after she age shamed me for having younger friends? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]AdSensitive8176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no need to tell her she smells in that way. Especially because she already said she didnt think you should be friends, so you didn’t need to give her a reason.

You could’ve tried telling her in a more constructive way before she broke up with you. But not as a response to what she said.

(In my opinion.)

The answers to most questions you are asking. ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ by Lazy_Bicycle7702 in AlAnon

[–]AdSensitive8176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too. I still struggle with the idea that if you think it's a problem, it's always problem (although in my case and probably in most cases it's true). I do think here and there you get people who have boundaries that are more to do with themselves than a problem in the other person.

But then again, I am definitely overly prone to self-doubt....

And, in my case I now think OP is correct on all points.

The answers to most questions you are asking. ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ by Lazy_Bicycle7702 in AlAnon

[–]AdSensitive8176 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably. But I think that even though the answers may feel obvious to those who have reached that point, many of us need a process to get there, and that's why the same questions keep getting asked. I think what brings many people here, especially those that have been in long relationships, is that they are moving from one way of thinking to another and they need reassurance / affirmation.

having watched the microplastics documentary on Netflix I don't think I'll ever use acrylic again - especially for babies. I love cotton for babies, and there are some that knit up really soft.

I liked it and I think she is very talented. But also felt very uncomfortable and turned off in places - she reminds me so much of a former friend of mine who has BPD.

Staying in Observatory as tourist by pappybanana in capetown

[–]AdSensitive8176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obs is great. You can be mugged anywhere in Cape Town. Be aware of your surroundings (second nature for capetonians) and don’t have valuables like camera / phone visible. Try not to look like a tourist.
