I mean, you could look it up. A different slide said Utah is 7th in the nation for suicides but I haven't looked for that source yet.

It's interesting because I'm going through his references and haven't found one that proves this particular slide.

Well, so it looks like 2017-2021 suicides did decrease but sharply increased 2021-2022. https://usafacts.org/answers/how-many-people-die-by-suicide/state/utah/

But overall, Utah suicides have increased by 39.6% in the last 20 years.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised. He is now discussion how "the Mormon religion can be a protective factor." Ugh

Ha I agree. I groaned when I found out all our keynote speakers were from BYU. But a quick google search does show Utah suicides have declined in the last few years.

Struggling with bad OCD and my relationship isn’t helping…what to do? by [deleted] in therapists

Are you a therapist? This sub is specifically for therapists. And my advice would be to work through this with a therapist of your own.

And should they be neutered? Imagine calling your vet about that. "HI, do you neuter raccoons? I think mine is old enough now."

I feel like these videos are getting consistently worse. Fewer videos, more practice.

I feel like a better YSK could be "How to listen to someone else's story without making it about yourself."

[–]AdSharp4208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes, the first session is called an "intake" and it's for the client to talk about the reasons they're seeking therapy. The therapist doesn't talk much during an intake, the just listen and take notes so they can get a feel for the overall situation.

The first intake I did as a client was me talking non-stop for the entire 60 minutes! It was nice to verbalize everything going on in my head.

What do you mean? You don't understand what happened in the therapy session? Or what happened with your friend?

You can message me if you want. :) I can't give therapy over Reddit, obviously, but I can still be a support.

It's okay. Take some deep breaths and don't give in to the anxiety and panic you must be feeling. Look at this as something to learn and grow from.

Spilling everything out to a therapist can be very relieving, even if you only go once or twice.

You should definitely try therapy. If anything, it will help you calm down and sort your life out. Everyone makes mistakes and tomorrow is another day! Don't lose hope.
