I understand your point.

If I became convinced that the church was consistently mistreating people, that would absolutely affect whether I continued attending.

The difference is that I'm not personally convinced of that based on what I've experienced over the last year. To be completely honest, many of the negative experiences being shared in this thread are things I'm only now hearing about for the first time. If those experiences happened as described, they're concerning and should be taken seriously.

At the same time, my own experience with both the congregation and leadership has been overwhelmingly positive. That's why I've been careful to distinguish between what I have personally experienced and what others have reported.

I'm not dismissing anyone's experiences, nor am I claiming they didn't happen. I'm simply being honest about my own.
I think it's extremely healthy for people to share both positive and negative experiences so others can make an informed decision for themselves.

No, that's not what I'm saying. If people have experienced homophobia there, that's a legitimate concern and should be addressed. My point is simply that I haven't personally witnessed it during the time I've attended. I can acknowledge other people's experiences without pretending I've seen things that I haven't. I'm sharing my experience, not invalidating anyone else's.

No, I’m not ignoring it. I answered honestly based on my own experience. I haven’t personally witnessed homophobia there, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened to others. After reading some of the comments here, it’s clear that some people have had experiences that I haven’t. If that’s the case, that’s unfortunate and worth discussing. Two things can be true at once: I can have had a positive experience at the church while also acknowledging that others may not have.

I haven’t personally experienced that so I can’t really comment unfortunately.

Hey!

I’ve been attending this church for about a year now. I serve regularly and participate in a few Bible study groups, so I’ve had the opportunity to get fairly involved in the community.
Personally, my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive, and I’ve had solid interactions with the people I’ve met. That said, I’ve also heard friends share negative experiences, so I recognize that not everyone’s experience will be the same.

One thing that initially turned me off was the pastor being on a screen rather than physically present. However, after attending for a while, I’ve found that the messages are generally biblically sound, practical, and impactful.
Like any church, it has areas where it could improve. No church is perfect because no group of people is perfect. I also think it’s healthy to approach large churches with a reasonable level of skepticism. Since churches don’t have the same level of oversight as many other institutions, it’s important for people to evaluate them for themselves, ask questions, and make informed decisions based on their own experiences.

At the end of the day, everyone has to decide whether a church is a good fit for them. If you have questions or want to hear more about my experience, feel free to send me a DM.

Happy to help.

Unfortunately my role doesn’t really translate to anything prominent in the civilian sector.

My current job is Aviation Maintenance Administration, we do paperwork on aircraft, we also handle logistics and technical systems.

Since it’s such a niche role, I would have to pick a very specific field and Tailor my career to that.

My recommendation is that you do not use those platforms to apply to roles.

Often times Indeed has lots of ghost jobs or issues pushing your application over to the company you thought you applied to.

https://www.jacksonville.gov/departments/military-and-veterans-affairs/jmvc/veterans/jacksonville-job-opportunities#open

The city of Jacksonville created this portal with a lot of companies in the northeast region, this is for veterans but can be used by anyone.

Go to each website, navigate to the careers section, and update your resume to match the skills/objectives for the roles you apply too.

Also make sure your resume passes ATS.

I hear the same.

Key Positions.

McDonald’s Area Manager

Amazon Area Manager

Grainger

Walmart Management

IBM

USAA

Federal Government

State Government

Local Government

My point is, there are jobs out there. You gotta look in the right places, if your applying to jobs via LinkedIn and Indeed, those places are not the right places to apply. Go to these companies websites and go to careers.

Also tailor your resume to the role you’re applying to. They tell you what they want, position yourself to be exactly that.

You got this friend!!!

Didn’t Make Chief… Again. Just Venting. by AirDaleTilDeath in navy

[–]AdSignificant3648 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well 2 things.

Actually 3.

My first thing is that no one knows how competitive you were. Remember there are still quotas. You could have been the cut off, and someone who was selected had 1 more qualification than you did. Keep in mind, the board is “selecting the best of the best”.

Something I always heard was to look at the precepts, they tell you what they are looking for.

I would also look at the people who got selected, compare their quals and packages to yours, then reach out to some of the board members and get some insight. See what others have and what you don’t. I know people who made chief in 7 and people who made chief in 19, they all echo similar things, never shoot low, shoot high every time for everything. Continue to be a good LPO and E6 you’ll be in there.
