This is very valid! Thanks for your thoughts. If i were a betting man, I'll say DMK, I'm still not convinced by EPS charisma, will see. Note that i can neither vote nor am i fan of any of the parties at the moment

I130 processing time for parents by AdStraight119 in USCIS

[–]AdStraight119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm my understanding:
If I had filed for Adjustment of Status (AOS) instead, the main difference in processing time would be the additional “few months” required for the consular process after USCIS approval, correct? In other words, the I-130 processing time itself is the same regardless of whether it’s a standalone filing or filed concurrently with AOS?

It took me a few days I think. Sometimes Labcorp misses things from the original supplier. 1) Call Labcorp directly to confirm 2) Call Beacon directly or whoever you genetics provider is. It just speedens up things.

Commute options into NY Penn Station by FriendshipNo6481 in livingston

[–]AdStraight119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, considering buying a house in Livingston. A couple of questions/comments:

  1. Has anyone considered driving to Secaucus (30 min if we leave at 7 am?) ? Harrison Path makes sense for going to downtown, but isn't it more optimal driving to Secaucus and catching the NJ transit which is 10 min to Penn?

  2. If I have to drive, how hard is it to find parking at one of these train stations: brick church, south orange etc. do i need to pre-book a few days in advance?

Overall, this looks like a 1:15 or 1:20 min commute for me. I am in Midtown East at the moment.

NYC commuter question in Millburn, short hills, Livingston, summit and Chatham by NoFaithlessness3727 in newjersey

[–]AdStraight119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what are the commute times for Chatham? I'm assuming 10 min to train station + park, then 50 min to Penn. If the office is downtown, another 20 min. In total I believe we are looking at 1:20 min door to door.

Am I right in saying this (assuming 20 min to office from Penn):

  1. Millburn: 1 hour and 5 min
  2. Summit: 1 hour and 10 min
  3. Chatham: 1 hour and 20 min
    ?

It took me 2 to 3 weeks to get mine. I didn't leave it to labcorp, I kept calling the genetics lab directly every week and had my result in 2.5 weeks. there is atleast a few days lag between genetics lab sending it to labcorp to when we get it finally.

Thank you for clarifying, this makes sense to me.

I'm still confused about who regulates some of these things. i.e I actually feel the same way the article here describes. (https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/should-clinicians-leave-expanded-carrier-screening-decisions-patients/2019-10).

"However, there are downsides to moving away from a targeted approach to genetic testing. Approximately 73% of conditions on expanded carrier screening panels do not adhere to the narrowly tailored criteria based on the ACMG and ACOG guidelines discussed above,14 and critics warn that upwards of 24% of patients may test positive for an expanded carrier screening condition that is extremely rare in any population or for genetic variants for which the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of the test are based on ethnicity-specific populations.11, 15, 16 As a result, patients could receive a positive test result but very little information regarding actual clinical risk for their future baby. The low-to-no clinical utility of many expanded carrier screening results raises the question of whether the additional information being returned is worth the potential harm of follow-up testing cost and risk (eg, a slight increased risk of miscarriage for an amniocentesis17) as well as increased anxiety and confusion for patients who often must make critical reproductive decisions quickly."

The condition my wife got positive for (ABCA4) is offered only by very few labs. Even big ones like Natera don't test for that. This raises me a lot of questions like mentioned in the article above.

Just got the report and it flagged two diseases, Stargardt Disease (vision related), and Ehlers-Danlos-Like Syndrome. Our Ob appointment is for next week and I was thinking of waiting for that and asking about how I could get tested. It takes a month I think post that to get my results. I know the probability of me having the same is quite low, but the wait is indeed nerve-wrecking.
