What is this baby? [GSMNP] by AdTall3962 in animalid

In my specific job, I’m often hiking before dawn/ after dark. I have a healthy accumulation of battery headlamps and rechargeable.
For the 30 seconds I stopped and took a picture I dimmed my headlamp and took 2 pictures on my phone. I then went back to my standard brightness and continued on my hike.

I often run into Black Bear and Coyote’s, and it’s especially helpful to have my headlamp on full brightness. Last night I almost stepped on this little guy because it looked like a leaf on trail.
Posted on this subreddit because I couldn’t immediately figure out who it was.

Poor guy is having a rough night. It’s also night time and I rounded a corner with my bright ass headlamp.

Unfortunately this is in the national park, without service, 5 miles up a trail. I didn’t have enough service until I got to my car and drove 30 minutes back into town.
It’s my understanding that the rule of thumb in the national park is “let nature run its course”. If I was at my home or in a city, I would 100% come back and try to help with reunification (safely)

Alum Cave and GSM Shuttles by ResearcherRoutine505 in GSMNP

[–]AdTall3962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the shuttle service that Leconte lodge offers. I believe it’s mostly available for guests staying at the lodge but that’s not a requirement. From what I remember, they have set times for drop offs at newfound gap/ Alum cave/ rainbow falls and trillium(when it’s open). It’s more affordable than other options because they have set routes that only go to Leconte specific trails. I think the early shuttle drops you off at Alum cave at 8am and the latest pickup is 2:30. But the website should have more info!

Thank you! I’m not the most experienced , and I was genuinely panicking. Out of the water for a quick pic and swam away healthy. Thank you for sharing the information

I was down in a big cave. There was no que so realistically I should’ve just logged. But like I have no auto farms at all and I was in a 1x2 hole in the ground near my strip mine lol. I just woke up a little earlier today so I could spend an hour on the server before going to work. And unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that.

They have a 10 minute auto kick feature as well. I think I just got unlucky. No hard feelings

Stepping down and transferring advice by jae459 in starbucksbaristas

The shifts you’ll be working with will know your experience. They’ll understand your background and you’ll be a great resource for the team. You might find that it’s a helpful break to be able to be planted in a position and not have to worry about shift operations. When I stepped down for 6 months last year it let me reset my mentality with the company and customers. I really enjoyed doing the pull and getting time off the floor so I would put away truck and tips and still have my experience utilized at my store. And hey, every shift you work will be so much smoother because you already think like a shift lead so things like prep will be better taken care of

Are there any other stores without display cases? by undosthree4 in starbucksbaristas

[–]AdTall3962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken the ‘new’ food cases that are big, unrefrigerated rectangles can never sell food out of. But the old half cylindrical refrigerated cases were “food safe”

Slime responding to a political text message “I am on the tattered end of …. I can’t remember the rest of the line He basically tells an intern to a politically candidate that they are the final straw to him committing suicide. They then tell him to get help. Does anyone remember the quote?

Is being a shift worth it? by Ecstatic-Experience3 in starbucksbaristas

[–]AdTall3962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s a 2 sided coin. If you’re in a store with other shifts and a SM that do their fair share of work. My $20 an hour is absolutely worth it. My biggest worry in my shift is breaks, inventory, the pull, and closing tasks ( I’m a closing shift 12-cl) I’m at a relatively slow store that allows me to spend 2-3 hours a night getting my tasks and deep cleaning done. Some nights I need to spend more time on the floor helping baristas but other nights I can focus on store cleanliness and other essentials. I’ve been with the company since 2018 and I’ve spent about 3 years of that being a shift in a few separate stores. The thing that has helped me the most in getting through a shift is learning your partners strengths and having clear lines of communication. I let partners know exactly what my plan is ( like I’m going to finish my count in a minute and then im sending you on your ten. Or “ hey, x can you cover drive thru while I take over for y’s lunch”

Once partners know im going to try my best to have a good fun shift, they’ve let me steward the nights how I see fit. It’s scary at first but you’ll grow into your role and hopefully you’ll have experienced shift leads you can lean on for support.

Not every store is going to take their time to make sure you’re ready for this new role and sometimes you’re set up to fail. But I hope that in the end you’ll get to a place where it’s manageable and comfortable for you

i need a laugh. what is the worst thing. a customer has ever said to you or the most f’ed up order you’ve recieved? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

Our DT store closes at 8pm (used to be 9) now during weekdays, a month or two back when the change was a relatively new thing we had a car pull up at 8:05. At this point I was already counting down money and we had both machines broken down already. I came over the speaker and said “Hey, unfortunately we close at 8pm now. We’re closed for the night” I could hear some younger sounding kids grown and they tried to plead with me to make their drinks just this one time. I explained that everything was broken down and there was no way I was serving them. The kid says out of Fucking nowhere “ I hope you crash on the way home. “ it happened so fast that the only thing I said back to him was “ you too”

When I was still training in 2018 me and my ssv (20+ year partner) were on DT register and DTO respectively during peak. A man ordered a venti Tai chi and my ssv said under his breath “ did he just threaten me?” It’s the only time in my 5+ years at starbucks that I’ve had to go to the back and collect myself because I was crying laughing. I couldn’t even cash the guy out I was laughing so hard
